Downloads from bank won't stop
Hi, I have 3 grandkids with 529's. I recently transferred funds from my checking account to their individual accounts both at the institution holding the funds and in moneydance. When the 529 institution submitted that payment to my bank they combined the 3 payments into one. Now when I download my transactions from the bank naturally it does not match MD and won't Merge, and thats OK as I know the process completed successfully. If I delete the downloaded transaction it downloads again the next time I download. The same happens if I change the value of the download to merge with one of my MD transactions. Also if I change the download to zero so as the keep my checking balance correct.
So the question is how can I stop MD thinking I have not downloaded this transaction and doing it again and again.

don't delete the transaction - otherwise Moneydance will think it hasn't been downloaded. You should be able to change the value of THAT transaction to 0 to satisfy moneydance seeing the fitid hidden attribute.

Hi dtd, Thanks for the quick response, however I am not familiar with the term ‘fitid’ - how do I see this hidden value ?
If I set the value of the downloaded transaction to 0 as you suggested then run download again I get another copy of the download with the original value from the bank. Sorry but I’m not familiar with all the nuances of MD.

"fitid" is a value that is assigned to each transaction by the download source to make it unique in the account.
If you right click on an account and select to show Raw details it is one of the fields.
This is what Moneydance looks at to determine if is should discard a downloaded transaction as being already present, thus if there is already a transaction in the account with this ID Moneydance should not import it again.

dwg, Thanks for the definition of fitid. I have downloaded this bank transaction twice and find they both have the same fitid
The first download transaction that I set to 0 ol_fitid_1: NyAmp1PoD8IBg54Yyr3dceXr6MAd5nizq8P4BL
This is the second downloaded transaction ol_fitid_1: NyAmp1PoD8IBg54Yyr3dceXr6MAd5nizq8P4BL. I left the value of this transaction at the value that was downloaded.
I download a third time and it discards this 3rd downloaded transaction. This implies that setting the value to 0 is what is causing the download function not to discard a re-download. From the above experiment it would seem that the download function is not checking the fitid correctly but rather the transaction value. What else can I check ? Have I found a bug ?

Hi Guys, Any further thoughts on the data I supplied ? I really would like to understand if there is anything I can do to prevent repeated downloads or if this is really a bug that will hopefully get fixed with the next update.

Pleased to say that the bank got fed up of downloading this data after approximately a week. However I know I have the same situation coming up in the next week or so and thus I expect the same problem to reoccur.
I must say I am disappointed in MD support for apparently dropping this issue for over two weeks with no input despite my plea for at least some guidance. I have provided the fitid data and experimented to help pinpoint the issue but got no response. MD support has been great in the past - "please don't blot your copy book" on this.

No one that has replied to you in this thread (dtd or dwg) is MD support. We are fellow users trying to help. Sorry you are disappointed in our response level, but we have no obligation (as users) to pursue any issue beyond trying to suggest or help.

dtd, Thank you - I have followed the support files for many years and realize both you and dwg are keen helpers and not MD support. I also do thank you for the help you have provided, which was helpful. It helped me find the fitid data and to experiment to find the additional data that I hope may help ’MD support’ find the source of the problem. My updated request was intended for 'MD support’ personnel who I believe would provide the official response.
Again, Thank you for all your help over the years.

As a possible solution, you can enter the transaction as the total amount in the register. Then enter splits for the transaction, so it is going to 3 different category/accounts.
When the download matches the total amount, then chose the option with the splits as the confirming entry.
