Transferring to another PC
I am on the verge of giving up trying to move my existing Moneydance data to another PC.
No matter what I do, as regards Import/ Export - Import backup/Export backup, I have had no success.
Some of the issues that arise are easily resolved, but the main problem relates to the fact that the date format insists on being Month/Day Year, whereas all my data is Day/Month /Year.
This means that from the 1st to the 12th of every month, for the entire period of the file, the dates are all incorrect, and have therefore moved to the wrong chronological position.
Plodding through 6 years of data and correcting each month's data was a pain, and on completion I discovered that many of the related accounts were now skewed by the date changes that had been made, so that was a couple of days wasted.
I have tried the transfer using both of the date options, but it still transfers incorrectly. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can sort this out.
Is my only option to start a completely new database from NOW, and just keep the old data for reference, if I can export it in some sort of legible format .

All you need to do is "Export Backup" on the old computer, save the file, put that file on a USB stick and copy it over to the new computer. You can then double click that file and it should launch MD and store itself in the folders area.
No import necessary - which I'm pretty sure all your issues you speak of are coming from.

Hi Geoff,
As dtd has advised, you can create a manual backup file via File > Export Backup. This will create a .moneydancearchive backup file. Move this file to your new computer, then simply double-click the backup file to import your data into Moneydance.
The date format should remain the same when you use a backup file to transfer your data. It could be that you need to amend the way your date format is displayed within your preferences.
To do this, open Moneydance and select File > Preferences. Within the "General" tab (as shown here), you can amend the Date Format field to "dd/MM/yyyy".

Sorted thanks.
It was my failure to 'Keep the Sync Settings' during the transfer that
caused the problem, I think.
