It seems that since upgrading my iMac (Intel Core i5, 16 GB memory, version 2020) to iOS 14.7 Sonoma there is a significant keystroke lag when entering data and accessing data fields in the register view. Is this a reported issue and is there a fix?

Are you using icloud sync? From Sonoma onward, icloud storage has been fundamentally changed in how it handles multiple, small files (which is how sync works for MD).

If so, either turn it off, or switch to dropbox sync to determine if that is what causes the issue.

If you are not using icloud sync, then more detailed info would be needed to diagnose.

When using the latest version of macOS Sequoia with the latest version of Moneydance, you can affect the iCloud Drive syncing by doing the following:

    1. Open Moneydance and select the Help->Console Window menu

    2. In the tiny button at the bottom left corner of that window, there's an icon with a circle containing three dots. Click, and from the menu that appears, select the Sync Folder->Show in Finder menu.

    3. In the Finder window that is opened, you'll see one or more opaquely named folders, with the sync folder for the currently open data file selected.

    4. If you right-click (control click) on that folder you can see a popup menu that includes some options specific to iCloud Drive, including "Keep Downloaded".

Clicking on that tells macOS to pre-download that folder, which should be a sticky setting. That will probably speed up syncing because Moneydance will not be waiting while macOS requests those files to be pull down from the iCloud Drive servers whenever required, they should already be held locally.

If you are using a slightly older version of Moneydance you would have to navigate independently to the iCloud folder to access this setting.

    Moneydance v 2024.2(5172), Mac OS 14.7 Sonoma.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the Keep Dowloaded option does not appear in the referenced menu on my machine. As with other users, the lag is occurring only when syncing to iCloud and not when using DropBox.

As it was introduced in Sequoia it would not be expected to be in Sonoma.

By default iCloud uses data less files, so files have to be downloaded only after having been requested by an application. Dropbox is downloading files in the background whenever they become available.

My response was largely for information and especially for others who may read it at some point.

Right, to avoid those delays, either do not use iCloud Sync on Sonoma or update your OS to Sequoia. Those are the solutions, easiest is to start using DropBox Folder as your sync.

I have been following the chats on Sonoma and Sequoia for Moneydance over the past year and have decided to let people know my experience just in case it helps anyone else.

I have a MacBook Pro M2 Max running MD 24.2 syncing to iCloud. I didn't want to have to change to Dropbox, so I had stayed on Ventura all of that time because I was concerned that Sonoma/ Sequoia might slow my MD program.

Recently, after another look at the chats related to this problem, I got up the courage to update to Sequoia 15.2. I'm not sure whether it helped but before opening Moneydance the first time, I made sure that Moneydance was ticked in Firewall permissions. It all worked perfectly! It was fast to enter the transactions and the test transactions were shared over iCloud within a couple of minutes so I am stoked.

I just want to say thankyou to Sean, Maddy and the crew for your vigilance in your continued support for Moneydance users. I came across to Moneydance a few years ago because the Reckon program that I had to use on Windows in parallels was not supported. It was always a nightmare to do any upgrades and hence my hesitations for this one. Anyway, it is all working beautifully and I am very happy.
