Bug: Investment Register considers random split from Bank Register to be a fee

Hello IK, love your software! Is this the proper area for a bug report? Or do you have an issue tracker somewhere?

I have an stock award from my employer. The transaction includes the award value (in cash), assorted tax deductions, and a small cash transfer (via a paper check) to a checking account.

In the Investment Account's Bank Register, I have a transaction with these splits, in this order:
1. Employment Income $1000
2. Federal Tax $-10
3. Social Security $-20
4. Medicare $-30
5. State Tax #1 $-40
6. State Tax #2 $-50
7. State Tax #3 $-60
8. [xfer to checking account] $-70

This leaves the deposit amount of $720, which correctly shows up in the Bank Register (in the investment account). It also show up as a increase in the cash balance of the security Register. So far so good.

But, in the security Register, the automatically-generated transaction is of Xfr-type and shows a FEE of $50 in the fee category of "State Tax #2". This is from line #6, above. Not only is this not a fee, but why would Line 6 be chosen instead of one of the other lines?

Also, in the security Register, the Transfer field shows the checking account, implying that the $720 should have been transferred from there. But, in that account's register, only the (correct) amount of $70 appears.

So, in summary, there is an incorrect "Transfer", "Fee", and "Fee Category" entry in the security Register. I haven't dug into the reports to see if this is causing any downstream problems.

Thanks for looking into it!

I'm using v2024.2 (5172), on Debian linux.

I am having the same problem. A monthly check goes straight to my brokerage account. In the bank register, I entered the splits for taxes and insurance.

But the net payment then shows in the investment register with Medical Insurance as the category. I can't schedule the monthly transaction in the bank register either. It loses all the splits.

    Running MD 2024.3 (5219) on Sequoia 15.3.

    TIA.

The Investment register has limited ability to display bank transactions and think that is coming into what you see. So I think it is fundamentally a display problem, I doubt if it will impact reporting as I believe the underlying data is OK.

I think the solution there would be for Moneydance to only show limited information in the investment register view for such transactions.

Something for the developer to look at.

As far as reminders go they have never had the ability to work with an Investment accounts's Bank register, only with the investment register. You cannot set one up on an Investment account's bank register.

I do not recall this coming up or being considered in the past, the Bank register view of an Investment account was implemented around Moneydance 2014.

I think this is one to consider as a potential future enhancement.

    What version of MD?

    Please do this:
    - Go to the parent txn. Right click. Show raw details. Upload copy here

The transaction in the account where the transaction was created is the parent transaction (that contains the splits). Right click that.
