There is a problem with the integrity of the reconciliation process, because one you have reconciled and balanced Moneydance register (to the bank statement), it does not have a security lock on that reconciliation period to keep you from entering a new transaction into the register that is the same as last month (repeating) that Moneydance recognizes and auto enters the same information AND DATE, if you don't change the date, it will move the transaction into last months statement period without a flag like if you try to "change" a transaction that has been reconciled (green dot) and now last month is out of balance without you realizing it until you can't find the transaction and don't know where it went. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where the transaction went to and why I suddenly was out of balance on a prior reconciliation that was balanced before. I also found there is no history statement closing date to reference so I started entering a transaction just to record where I balanced and how much I balanced too. The only history is when you click on reconcile and you see prior balance but not your history little locked with the ability to open if you didn't balance and move on and then go back to work on it later. There is no Reconciliation history screen? This is an important function as reports and graphs are generated from this data and it needs all the bells and whistles to ensure it's integrity. I saw someone post this problem and they got a long tutorial on balancing a checkbook and didn't understand the problem Moneydance has with reconciliations.

The problem is outside of how to balance a check book, it’s an application integrity issue.
