Importing Transaction File from PNC Bank Visa Card

MoneyDance does not import my PNC Visa credit card transactions correctly. (I've never had a problem importing PNC checking account transactions or credit card transactions from other banks.)

Here's the problem:
1. From the PNC website, I download Visa credit card transactions to my local computer.
2. I import the downloaded file into MoneyDance.
3. The Visa card transactions import correctly, EXCEPT that every imported transaction shows up as a payment, regardless of whether it was actually a charge or a payment. the same error occurs with QFX and OFX files.
4. I have to correct every charge transaction in MoneyDance manually.

To prove that the problem lies in MoneyDance, not within PNC, I've imported the identical OFX file into Microsoft Money, and it imports correctly.

This problem does not occur when I import transactions for my PNC checking account.

Perhaps it is useful to note that I see a difference between CSV file formats for the checking transactions and the Visa transactions. The checking account CSV file shows the following column headings: DATE, DESCRIPTION, WITHDRAWALS, DEPOSITS, BALANCE.

The credit card XLS file has only DATE, DESCRIPTION, and AMOUNT, where the amount shows as a positive number for charges and a negative number for payments. Perhaps there is a similar difference in the OFX and QFX files.

    Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've encountered.

Open Moneydance and select Moneydance > Preferences/Settings.
Select the "Network" tab, as shown in this article.
Enable the setting "Ignore Transaction Types in Favor of Amount Signs".
Then press OK, and restart Moneydance.
Then you should attempt to import the OFX file again.

Let me know if the problem persists after making this change and we'll troubleshoot further.
