Balances are Off
I've been using MD for years. I generally download data from my account and put it in MD at two-week intervals. I've never had any trouble getting the balances in MD to be the same as in my various accounts. However, today when I downloaded the data from a couple of my bank accounts, the balances were way off. The balanced agreed two weeks ago, but now they are way off, and the problem doesn't appear to be with the last two weeks of data. All the transaction listed in MD seems to be accurate going back as far as I can check, but balances are off. In the case of the checking account this problem goes back more than six months. I have more six months of transactions from the checking account in MD, but the bank website only has transactions going back about six months. So that's as far back as I can check. One account is off by about $29K and the other about $3.2K. I have no idea what is going on. It's mind boggling. Could it have something to do with this being the first time I have put downloaded data from my bank accounts into MD in the new year (2025)? I don't know what the reconciliation feature does. Maybe I could fix things with it? Maybe I should just make the balance accurate by adjusting the initial balance of the account using the account edit feature? This will result in negative balances for the earlier entries, and I know I never had a negative balance these bank accounts. I have put a lot of time into keeping MD accurate over the years. Can I now not rely on it to accurately track my spending?

just a user,
Are you sorted by date?

Thanks for the reply.
The transactions are sorted from the most recent to the oldest. The most recent are at the top. The balance now appears to be off by the same amount going back more than six months. I can't get balance from the bank account longer ago than that. And the MD balance for the account was correct just two weeks ago when I did it. Now two of the MD accounts are way off. I've been using MD for years and never had a problem like this.

Suggest you take a backup then restore an older backup (UNTICK retain sync settings). See if the error is fixed. If so, then redownload txns to catchup. It sounds like you have accidentally deleted reconciled txns.

New data for 2025 would not make a difference, the software itself does not care about dates as such.
Clearly something has happened as to what and why, who knows, it would only be a guess based on what we know.
Like Stuart I would suggest a restore from backup. Then update accounts one by one checking after each.

Thanks. It worked. Actually I had tried something like that before, but didn't untick retain sync settings.
