    Hi Gary,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

In order to determine what might be causing the problem, please can you provide the information below:

    • Which version and build of Moneydance are you using? To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance --> About Moneydance

    • Can you let me know which operating system you're running on your computer?

    • Is your data file stored in the default location?

Please note: if you are syncing your data with a mobile device, or another system - you should NOT move your data file to a shared folder location, like Dropbox, iCloud etc. The file should remain on your local system if your data is being synced or shared, as outlined here.

    • When you navigate to File->Syncing which sync method do you have selected? Dropbox Folder or Dropbox Connection, other?

    • Finally, is your most recent data showing on your phone or on your computer?

    Thank you

    Mac 15.2 latest version
    Moneydance for Mac latest version
The issue appears to be that the Mac created its own folder on dropbox
The latest transitions are all on our iPhones is a different folder which the Mac should be using

I have the MacBook syncing to dropbox. However when trying to choose not to sync the Mac created a Moneydance file under documents

However all of our transactions for past years are on dropbox.

If it would be better I could make Mac store files locally on Mac and then share the files to iPhones but would the iPhones transfer changes made while out shopping to MacBook files located on MacBook?

If I choose not to sync and store files locally on Mac how would I share the files to iPhone? Also I would need to transfer the entire past years files from dropbox to MacBook no?

As the data on your mobile device is up-to-date, we can take it from there.
To sync to the same sync file as your mobile device, you should follow the steps below:

You will need to launch Moneydance on your computer and click on File/Moneydance -> New -> Open Synced File, there, select the same sync method as it was originally setup on your computer (Dropbox Connection or Dropbox Folder).

You will see a list of data files with the name of your base account, select the same as the one on your mobile device and you will see a prompt for the passphrase (it should match the one you have created on your computer's previously), wait for the initial sync process to finalize and that will be it.

Also, are you able to take the following steps?

    • make a change on the desktop, say by entering a dummy transaction with yesterday's date;
    • wait about 30 seconds (or close Moneydance)
    • open Moneydance on the iPhone, and give it a second or two to sync

Does the dummy transaction not appear?

If not, can you make sure you are opening the same data set on the desktop and the phone?

If the change doesn't come over, you can look at the folder on Dropbox under here: https://www.dropbox.com/home/.moneydancesync

There is one "opaquely" named subfolder for each data set you have synced with Moneydance.
Under the subfolder for your data set there's another subfolder called "v3" which will contain one file for every change you make on the desktop.

You can use that folder in Dropbox's web interface to see how long it takes any change to go from Moneydance on the desktop up to Dropbox. It's also useful for determining whether the changes in your desktop data set are going to the sync folder that you expect.
