32-bit Version No Start

I know that Windows 7 users are few and far in between.
Starting with build 5213 and now 5214, Moneydance does not start. It shows up briefly in Task Manager and then goes away. The error log is not updated.
I guess this is what "deprecated" means?

    Hi,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

Firstly, please can you confirm whether you're using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7?
To check you should type in System Information in the search field of your Windows computer.
If you are running a 32-bit Operating System you should try installing the 32-bit Intel (deprecated) version from this page

Alternatively you should select the 64 bit Intel installer.

If the problem persists, you could try installing this version, generate an error log and attach it to your next reply in this thread.

The logs should include information on what might be causing the issue.

You could navigate to Help->Console Window and click the arrow (at the bottom left). Select Copy to Clipboard and attach or paste the full content in your next reply.

    Alternatively, you should navigate to:

    Local Disk(C:)>Users>Your Name>.moneydance>errlog.txt

Finally you can copy the full content into your next reply here.

    Thank you

    Hi Maddy,
Thanks for the prompt reply. The problem is with the 32-bit version of Moneydance, builds 5213 and 5214, running under Windows 7 SP1, 32-bit.
As for the errorlog.txt, there is nothing new in it after the update. I guess that Moneydance never gets to write to errorlog.txt before it quits. Moneydance shows up in Task Manager and disappears immediately.
    Build 5172 works.

You must have used the 64 bit Intel installer to be able to install Moneydance 2024.2 (5172) as a 32 bit installer of this version is not available.
So, my question is: Have you tried the 64 bit Intel installer of Moneydance 2024.3 (5214)?

I used the installer from the 32-bit Intel (deprecated) link on the Moneydance Previews page for build 5172 (which works) and for builds 5213 and 5214 (which do not work).
Are you suggesting that I should try the 64-bit Intel installer on Windows 7 32-bit?

    No.
You may want to try installing the alpha version.
This includes a 32 bit installer.

Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!

Unfortunately the 32-bit Alpha Preview does the same thing. I renamed the old errorlog.txt file just in case. No new errorlog.txt file is created.
I guess I'll stick with build 5172 for a while.
    Thanks.

Just tried the newly released build 5217 (32-bit) and still does not start.
It shows in Task Manager for about 2 seconds then goes away. Nothing visible on the screen. File errlog.txt does not record anything.

Unfortunately, that is something we could expect, this is because Windows 7 hasn't had security updates or technical support since January 2020.
I suspect that your best options are to downgrade to Moneydance 2020.2 (1929) if you intent to continue running Windows 7 or to upgrade your operating system.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

The 32 bit version is also not starting in Windows 11 64 bit, although it should with WoW.

The 32 bit version is by necessity using an older release of the JVM as newer versions no longer supports 32 bit.

With the porting effort being undertaken, to enable a fuller version of Moneydance for Mobile devices, it is possible there are incompatibilities coming in.

The 32 bit version has been maintained for some time to support the ARM equipped Surface Pro, however with a native version now available, the days of the 32 bit kit I think will be numbered in any case.

    Thanks Maddy and dwg,

There is no need to go that far back. Moneydance 2024.2 build 5172 works.
Since the 32-bit version is deprecated and no longer working, and, as I read between the lines, this is the end of it, I suppose that it should not be offered as an alternative download.

I think Sean will need to have a look at it to see if it is retrievable.

    Hello,

I'm sorry to say that we can't continue to support Windows 7 as we have no way of testing Moneydance on it, or even trying to figure out what it might be from version to version that is not compatible with Windows 7. I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to a newer version of Windows (or Linux or Mac)) so that you get security updates for your operating system.

In the meantime you can download the 32 bit version of Moneydance 2024.2 from here:
    https://infinitekind.com/stabledl/2024.2_5172/Moneydance_windows_x8...

That link shouldn't be going away anytime soon, so feel free to bookmark it.

    Thanks,
    Sean
