After upgrade category defaults to _401FedWithheld
I just upgraded to version 2024.3 and now every time I add an entry the category is filled with _401FedWithheld.

That would be the first category you have alphabetically. (underscore comes before A) -
that is the default category if you haven't set one. (I created a category called Anything as my first account)
What was your default category with 2024.2 ?
does this happen with one account or all accounts? You can change the default category for each account, but I'm sure a little diagnosis might help MD and you overall.

I believe the Category was blank before I selected anything. I only have one account.

If you only have one account, go to Account/Edit and change the default category to what you want it to be. (every transaction must have a category)

Sorry, but Account>Edit only allows me to add a comment. There is no setting for default category.

You should select the relevant account in the left side bar before selecting Account->Edit Account.
