I have just updated to Version 2024.3 from the Mac app store on my M1 MacBook Air running macOS 15.3.1 (24D70).

I am now unable to open Moneydance. Moneydance just freezes on the opening splash screen and the only way I can exit is by force quitting the app.

Please can you look into this as a matter of urgency.

Regards.
Bernard.

    Replying to my own post.

After waiting for quite a few minutes, the app finally opened.

I will now close this discussion.

    Thanks.

    Oops I spoke too soon.

The app did eventually open. However every time I launch the app It takes almost six minutes before the splash screen disappears and the app finally opens.

I use iCloud sync if that helps you to diagnose the problem.

    Regards
    Bernard.

    iCloud is a possibility.

With Sequoia you can have an impact on syncing performance, the following can be done.

When you are using the latest version of Moneydance, you can affect the iCloud Drive syncing by doing the following:

    1. Open Moneydance and select the Help->Console Window menu

    2. In the tiny button at the bottom left corner of that window, there's an icon with a circle containing three dots. Click, and from the menu that appears, select the Sync Folder->Show in Finder menu.

    3. In the Finder window that is opened, you'll see one or more opaquely named folders, with the sync folder for the currently open data file selected.

    4. If you right-click (control click) on that folder you can see a popup menu that includes some options specific to iCloud Drive, including "Keep Downloaded".

Clicking on that tells macOS to pre-download that folder, which should be a sticky setting. That will probably speed up syncing because Moneydance will not be waiting while macOS requests those files to be pull down from the iCloud Drive servers whenever required, they should already be held locally.

You can also post you Moneydance errorlog - errlog.txt and we can see if that gives us any insight.

Thank you. I’m away from my Mac now but I’ll have a look when I return home.

@dwg Thanks for your assistance. It turns out that it was The "Toolbox" extension causing the problem. Once I removed the extension, Moneydance fired up without any problem.

Thank you once again for guiding me in the right direction. :-)

I would expect Stuart will be very interested in anything involving the Toolbox extension. I have never seen Toolbox cause such a problem.

It would be very unusual for toolbox to be causing a launch issue. How do you know it’s toolbox?

Please can you reinstall toolbox then restart MD. This time, after launch, please grab help/show console output and upload that log here so I can see what’s going on

    Ok?

It does seem to be Toolbox causing the problem.

FYI I am using the Mac App Store version of Moneydance.

I am now unable to re-install toolbox by dragging the extension into Moneydance. This causes the app to totally freeze with the spinning beach-ball of death!

I've tried installing other extensions the same way and they install without any problem.

Ok. Can you reproduce. Then kill the app. Then find errlog.txt file on disk and upload that.

To find the location. First go to help/console. Click (…) and then show folder for console log. Save that location. Then install toolbox. Then kill app. Then grab the file.

    Ok?

Hi Stuart, I decided to leave the spinning beach-ball for 5+ mins and eventually toolbox installed. I'm now back to having Moneydance freeze on the splash screen for 5+ mins on launch.

I've attached the errlog.txt file here. Hope this helps.

I've reproduced... It's not toolbox (as such), it's anything python and the sandboxed App Store build....

I've no idea what that means but, for now, I'll just remove toolbox to prevent the freezes.

    Thank you.
