Hi - have used Moneydance for many years with very few issues.

As of today I am not able to launch the Moneydance application on my Mac. I see there was an update from the app stall automatically installed earlier today so I'm assuming it has something to do with that. When I try to launch the program I just see the Moneydance slash screen and it never progresses. I have left it at the splash screen for 15 mins and still no progress.

Currently running MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1 on an M2 MacBook Air. The App Store shows it updated to version 2024.3 which was 152.7MB

Any suggestions gratefully received as I will be lost with out Moneydance

Thanks

.....it seems I was a little impatient. After about 25 mins the application did finally launch.

I'm attaching the console data to see if that is of any value to help identify what is taking so long.

    Thanks in advance

Going through the console it appears to be the Custom Balance extension causing all sorts of issues.

Removing that extension has fixed the problem.

    Happy days

I'm sure Stuart will be interested in anything that involves Custom Balances.

It’s not CB as such. There is an issue with the apps store version and Python code. This is causing all Python extensions to hang. We don’t know why yet.

Ahh so it's that problem again.

A lesson for the future is, buy direct from Moneydance, not via Apple or Microsoft store. Fewer issues as direct from Moneydance undergoes more testing.

What version of app were you using from AppStore when extensions like custom balances worked ok?

Sorry Stuart - I can't tell you what version I was running previously - just that it's currently 2024.3 (5219).

derekkent23 - my own experience is the opposite. I used to purchase directly from Moneydance and had several issues with each upgrade - probably user error about file locations but I always had to set aside an hour to two for each upgrade. Since moving to the AppStore version upgrades (until now) have been seamless and happen in the background without me needing to do anything. Maybe I've just been lucky until now.

Let me try a different question. Were you previously using an AppStore version of MD and were you always able to manually add extensions like toolbox and custom balances, and did these run ok (on the App Store version)?

    Hi there
Yes - have been using the Apple AppStore version for 5+ (guessing) years. I have been able to add and use the Custom Balances and Quote Loader extensions and both seemed to operate fine.
Prior to the latest MoneyDance update the application has been slowish to open (about 12 seconds). I have noticed that since I removed Custom Balances it now loads as quickly as every other app on my MacAir (more like 2-3 seconds).
    Cheers
    Kev
