Moving Accounts and Categories to a New File without Transactions
I saw a discussion saying Accounts and Categories can be moved to a new file with no transactions. I start a new file every year (because that's what my bookkeeper brain needs) and recreating the Accounts and Categories is tedious.
Please tell me if it's possible to make a new file with Accounts and Categories intact, but no transactions. And please give instructions on how to do it. Thank you very, very much.
Stuart, if you see this, I had already deleted the file before you told me to post screenshots. And if I can just get the correct instructions, it won't matter.

Hello. Easy to follow these instructions exactly. Thank you. This produced a file with Accounts and Categories intact. However, the amounts shown in the Accounts are the beginning balances for 2024. I can see how people could need that, but I need the ending amounts for 2024. Is there a way to have Toolbox produce this same file, but with the ending amounts? At least the Accounts are editable this time, so I can fix them manually if necessary. Thanks for your help.

Hi, that still makes no sense? Did you tick or clear the option to zero opening balances?
I'm assuming you are UNTICKING that option and thinking that it some how recreates opening / ending balances for a new year? This is not what this does.. If you don't zero the account balances, then it simply copies across the original account opening balances.. That's all..

Hi. Yes, I was unticking that option because I didn't want zero opening balances. I wanted the ending balances. From your last message I gather that there is no option for what I want. I'll take the one with the opening balances and manually change each balance. It's still far easier than recreating each account. Thanks anyway and thanks for Toolbox. I'm sure it's helping a lot of people.

The ending balance is a calculated number, to bring that number over as the new opening balance would take quite a bit of work. The opening balance in the existing data file that it brings over is just the initial balance value On the account information screen, which means that Toolbox is just not zeroing that value.

Ah. I'm not a developer and didn't know or intuit this, but I can understand what you mean about how the software works. Thanks, dwg
