Text entry flaw - sometimes

Sometimes when I am typing into the search box at the top of the window, only one letter appears at a time. If I type in a string of letters, only the last letter typed appears. If I typed in "quarterly" then only the "y" will be visible for the search. I have to click on a transaction and then click back in the search box "quarterly" and they I can do a search of all transactions containing the word "quarterly",

I cannot think of a reason why this change in typing behavior would ever be useful. It does not happen in any other application than Moneydance.

So. You are using a Mac? Yes?

Assuming so… this is an old Java bug.

It happens when you click into any field. Select all text, then start typing.

The fix. Don’t select all text first.

This also occurs in other Java apps. Not just MD

    Stuart,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Yes, it is a 2019 iMac running the latest release OS.

I don’t consciously select Select all text but I assume that there is some keyboard combination that I’m inadvertently hitting which does select that. To my knowledge, I’ve never experienced that in any other app but it happens frequently in Moneydance. Now I know how to get out of it. I select a transaction and then poke the Search window again. Problem gone.

So, you know about it and it is imbedded in Java. You are smart people. If you haven’t figured out how to eliminate it, I can live with it.

    Thanks again for the reply

Yup - its a long standing java bug - one which Java people don't seem to want to fix.

Just single click anywhere in the field to correct
