Quote Loader Price Errors from Yahoo Today

Today, after working perfectly every day, the Quote Loader extension reported errors on all prices obtained on both my Windows 11 desktop computer and my MacBook Air M4, both with latest OS installed. I note that nobody else has reported that here or on a Google search.

The source for all prices is Yahoo. The same result was obtained after changing to Yahoo HD. Changing to FT yielded no errors, although yesterday's prices were recorded, probably due to time zone difference. It seems the problem lies with Yahoo and not Quote Loader, but I'm puzzled that no-one else has reported it.

I just tried a manual run with Yahoo HD and I am not seeing any errors.

Quote Loader is broken. I download quotes an hour after market close and three quotes failed. An hour after that, half the quotes failed. I just tried it now 2025/04/29 730pm Pacific and and all quotes failed. Switching to FT only works for some quotes (due to it's international nature).

All my quotes with QL are still working.

I'm also having errors. I switched a few from Yahoo to FT, and those are downloading OK.

I got the same issue. I updated Quote Loader to the latest version, got a free API key at https://www.alphavantage.co/ , set the key into the params, and switched source to Alpha Vantage to make it work.

Another piece of software I use that downloads quotes from Yahoo is also broken today -- it looks like a problem with Yahoo Finance.

I have performed my normal updates with my Australian shares using Yahoo HD without problem, this sounds like it may be a localised problem with Yahoo.

    Hi

It seems Yahoo itself was down, but it looks like they have fixed it. Just run a test using Quote Loader with the source Yahoo and retrieved 110 prices .
    All working now.

    Hope this helps.

Well I think Yahoo is broken again. Just tried with Yahoo, Yahoo HD, FT HD and FT and the only one that worked was FT and even they it couldn't fetch GOOG, but that may just be a FT thing. So hopefully Yahoo will fix it. I can't imagine it's a geographical thing if some have it work and some don't! :) Anybody willing to try again and report back?

    Hi

Just run a test using Quote Loader with the source Yahoo after adding GOOG and retrieved 111 prices .
So not sure why you are having a problem.
By the way if you set source for FT and add GOOG:NSQ in Alt Ticker box, FT should return last closing price.

    Hope this helps.

I still get all errors using Yahoo as the source. Very hard to understand why some of us get errors and some have no problem using Yahoo source. I am in Pacific time zone. FT works without reported errors, but at least one mutual fund quote not correct.

Have you used a browser to look up one of your failed securities on Yahoo?

    Hi robnich1

Lets see if you can provide more data for Mike to look at.

Closed Moneydance and then open Moneydance and Quote Loader. Click parameters and tick Console Message Detailed box and click Save Parameters.

Now click GET PRICES and take and post a screenshot. In Moneydance click HELP – CONSOLE WINDOW – SAVE to save a file and post that as well.

The console says ‘too many requests’ it looks like Yahoo is beginning to
play games again. I guess some sort of throttling is required.

I don't know what "some sort of throttling is required" means. I don't think there's anything I can do I haven't already tried.
    Standing by hopefully.

I am having the same issue today (Apr 30). I get most of my quotes from FT (no problems there) but I need to get 3 stock from Yahoo and 4 exchange rates. All fail with error returned 429.

A portion of my post from the Quote Loader Version 2 thread in the Investments:

    [Running after 9:30am PDT]:

Both Yahoo and Yahoo HD failed for me from the start. I did a run with the source set to Yahoo and the Concole Messages parameter to 'Detailed'. Every request generated this: 'Quote Load>INFO-pool-4-thread-3(GetQuoteTask,call) error returned 429' for each request.'

I subsequently did a manual lookup of historical data for a security and the web page returned fine.

It seems that the Quota Loader Yahoo outage as been resolved. It appeared to be a problem with Yahoo.

These outages seems to happen once or twice a year. I for one would be open to a low-cost subscrption offered by MoneyDance (maybe $5/month). I'd like to get ahead of the day when/if these outages become permanent.

I'm still seeing no data from Yahoo or Yahoo HD. This is after restarting Moneydance before each attempt. Is there some cache or cookie that needs to be cleared?

Not resolved for me. Still get errors and no price updates from Yahoo with Quote Loader. I changed three to FT and those prices came through with no error. The problem is clearly with Yahoo Finance and not Quote Loader.

I remain baffled by the fact that Derekkent23 reports no problem with QL retrieving 110 prices from Yahoo while I fail repeatedly with only 18 prices.

Still no joy!!! had to switch all 112 to FT, but didn't update ALT TICKER for GOOG (thanks Derek!!) but until I fill that in, I'll survive with 111!!! :)

    Hi Mark

Just ran QL again after reading your Post. see video.
I am in the UK but QL uses the same Yahoo address where ever you are.

Don't know why it does not work for some users.

TiK I doubt could ever have a subscription service for quotes. The customer base is world wide, it would have to gather potentially thousands of prices from multiple sources, I'm sure it does not have the resources to do this. Companies that provide this sort of access to that data typically charge thousands (Thompson Reuters for example).

I live in the USA and have previously reported QL failing when using Yahoo HD as the source.

However, after reading derekkent23's most recent post, I used a VPN to move my IP address the UK. After doing that, QL using Yahoo HD downloaded current quotes for my 200+ securities and currencies.

So, it looks like your IP address DOES make a difference. I suspect there is new code on Yahos's USA servers. Who knows how they will propagate it? (rhetorical)

My QL is also failing on all securities. I'm using Yahoo HD and changed the extension to only download one security: AAPL. It failed. I've attached the console output from it.

Hmm. I just downloaded 57 securities about 70% from Yahoo HD, 4 from Yahoo and the rest from FT HD. Downloaded fast and did not show errors. The saving of the data though was very slow after the download. US location, no VPN.

Still haven't seen any problem here - Mountain Time Zone, U.S.

I have about 90 securities. I see many here have quite a few more. Yahoo may be trying to catch what they consider to be high level users...

I am about as low level as they come but still get nothing but errors from Yahoo or Yahoo HD for my measly 18 security prices. I'll try again tomorrow.
