Quote Loader Slow Saving Prices

So, about the same time Yahoo broke things, I notice this issue. I was waiting until the kerfuffle died down and most of us have successfully transitioned to FT and AlfaVantage. I also want to thank Mike and Derrek for their work in building QL and its documentation and support. It has been a life saver of an extension.

With FT and AV, the quotes are found very fast. I have about 55 items I fetch, with about 4 "Do not load" items. I then "Select All" and then "Update All Prices".

About a month or so ago this worked essentially instantaneously (ie less than 0.5 seconds). About that time, it suddenly slowed down to taking 7 or 8 seconds. It is not clear why, there were no updates to MD at that time and I don't recall a QL update. I can live with this delay but with computers today 8 seconds seems like an eternity. Is this a feature or is something seriously pear shaped about my data set. (Toolbox thinks it is OK).

    Hi,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

If you haven't already installed this version, the Quote Loader v.321706 is available to download. It contains a temporary fix for the blocked Yahoo price updates.. This is not a "supported" build by Mike Bray as he no longer supports his code/extensions.
It has been signed by IK.

Please note: It's possible that Yahoo might detect and block this again at some point.

Side note: We have recently released an update for the Quotes and Exchange Rate Updater v.1042.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

I believe that this was discussed in an earlier thread. If you have enabled View>Show Networth Graph, the slowdown comes from updating the graph once the new values have been saved.

Stopped using Yahoo Connections and the slow down is in saving the prices not downloading them. Will update QL and see if the issue persists.

@aforkosh, which thread? Most QL threads are labeled "not working" and search for "slow" usually just says "slow" or "md slow" with little information.

Also not do not have view network graph on.

Updated QL, the issue exists, fast to download the prices but saving them takes about 14 seconds. Even when there are very few new prices to update. Earlier today I updated most of the prices but then came back and did another get prices to find the missing half dozen or so. Still updating those half dozen still took 14 seconds.

@sth can you switch QL detailed debugging on then Restart MD, repeat your price update and time it. Then grab and upload the console error log file.

    Stuart,
Tonight, only about half the quotes downloaded and the others were not updated. Took about 4 seconds to update. I need to wait later in the evening when all the quotes are available. But it does seem to be proportional to the number of quotes. I will DM the err log to you over Slack.
Has the QL stopped multi-threading as it used to?

    Stuart,
Tonight it was about 5 seconds to save the data. Not sure what has changed. Will let it ride for now.

Sth. Only half downloaded? What were the errors in the log file?

    Stuart,
Only half loaded since it was too early in the evening for AlphaVantage or FT to have updated quotes available. So there were only about half of them to update. The following evening (post #8) I did later (around 11PM eastern US time) and had all the quotes to update.

I didn't see any errors in the log file which I sent to you through Slack. I can send a clean one with a late update that includes all 56 securities if you think it is substantially different than the one I sent.

QL 322004 is now available. Whilst the extensions menu says it’s an older version, just uninstall and reinstall and it will pick up 322004.

Sorry to report that I just ran QL 322004 and it is exhibiting same problem with slow price updating as earlier version. It gets the prices quickly but runs through the pricing update within MD slowly.

Please clarify.... It gets the prices quickly and displays them? You are saying that when you click save prices, that is slow? How many prices? Can you switch on DETAILED debugging and try again and then upload help/show console?

It gets prices quickly but seems to slow down when adding them to the database. I can see the account total change as each price is added to the database. Also, most prices are coming from FT (maybe a handful from Yahoo). Not home right now so can't access program.

Sure, will do. However, the real slow down went away as mysteriously as it appeared. The "fetching of prices seems to be reasonably fast and limited by response time from FT, AV, and even Yahoo (back when it was working). Maybe 5 to 10 seconds, but prices were filling in all that time. But then I would press "Select All" and then "Save Prices". "Save prices" would take a couple of seconds. Then it changed suddenly to about 15 seconds. Not sure what had changed that triggered it, not an update of versions of anything.

One thing that may be an issue is that updating more than 1 day's prices is very slow? Since I am fetching FT HD, and AV HD, I sometimes am updating a couple of days which in one test took much longer. Not sure if that is the reason. Need to do more testing.
