Why do Moneydance columns labeled "Rate" and "Foreign Amt" have data entered? How to Remove?
In the 2020 version of Moneydance the subject column lines showed data when some transactions were entered. I was able to get rid of such data by selecting & deleting them. Now that I've updated to the 2025 version of Moneydance, the Rate & Foreign Amt data that show up can't be deleted. These numbers should not even be a default - When attempting to go through the settings & various Tools and Extensions, I can't find how to eliminate these annoying entries.
This issue was raised in February 19, 2021; We need to revisit this issue as the solutions were inadequate & the discussion closed - why? This needs to be resolved in the updated application.

The only time the rate and foreign amount fields will contain data is when the currency of the account and the currency of the account/category of the source/destination of the funds are different and therefore a conversion is required.
I would be checking the currencies in use.

So, I checked and noticed I had a mix of CND & USD currencies in the categories. Because I only use Canadian dollars (CND) for the banking account, of which I use Moneydance for, I now started editing the USD categories & deleting those that couldn’t be changed. Because these changes altered my balance, I decided to start a new account and I made sure when creating it that it is based on the Canadian dollar.
I will check back in if I have further problems. It seems that I had selected preset categories when entering transaction entries that by default are based on USD. And, the original account that I created in 2014 references USD by default (I mustn’t have noticed that).

When you first set up Moneydance, depending on how it is done determines the initial setup of the categories in terms of currency.
If you do an import as a first step you are likely to get a default currency of USD, if though you create a new account set, you have the option of determining the default currency.
The Toolbox extension has an option to force change the designated currency of an account/category, but it will not recalculate transaction amounts.

I did discover that the import from 2014 to the account I setup in 2020 initiated the categories as you mention. Hence, as you also indicated, I now created a 2025 NEW account and opted to make the default currency in Canadian dollars.
I’m going to check the account/category selections from the Toolbox extension to make sure I have everything in CND as I enter my transactions going forward. Again, if there are any glitches I’ll reconnect with you.
Thanks for your help & comments.

I see "Rate" and "Foreign amt" in the same title boxes as "Charge" and "Payment" and it has always puzzled and irked me. (see screenshot attached).
I have never used any currency except GBP and I am not sure what is meant by data appearing for these, since the same columns are used for every transaction so there's always data.
The answers above mention when MD was first setup...mine was originally set up in 2002, but I am and always have used the latest version available, including previews.
From this thread it seems I might be able to use Toolbox to get rid of "Rate" and "Foreign Amt". Is that correct? I had a look at Toolbox > Menu: Currency and Security Tools but couldn't see an obvious way to do it?
Thanks

The headings are not column headings, but are field headings, you cannot remove them.
They relate to two line mode, so the second line in the heading relates to the fields in the second line of two mode display.

Thanks dwg. I will carry on ignoring them. I only use single line mode and had not understood that they are related to double line mode.
