I have created a transaction reminder to Transfer a cash amount from a Pension Account. I want to be able to transfer it to a Bank Account, but I want to add a Category of Retirement and Subcategory of pension Income. I can create the reminder as you can see, but i cant work out how to add both of the items i want.. I can either add the transfer to retirement: Pension income, or i can add the bank account to go to and then there is nowhere to add the categories. at present I have had to do it by adding 2 transactions one for each, but then that duplicates the amounts in my reports. I dont sell anything so cant use the Sellxfr Action, and I tried MiscExp but that doesn't seem to work either... Does anyone have any ideas please?

You can either transfer money to an account OR a category not both. To do both is doubly counting in a way as you have one source and two destinations. It would break the accounting rules which Moneydance is based on

An approach that can be used is to create a category that is used as a sink and you transfer between this category and the one you want the funds to appear in.

You would have to do it as two reminders as Investment account reminders cannot handle split transactions.

This is the way I have done it.

Thank you dwg. I have followed your advice and have 2 separate reminders and assigned different categories/sub categories to each. One is for the transfer of the money out of the pension to the a new non-reportable category and one is the credit of the bank account to the reportable category. These two occur on different dates which is also a challenge. So one is included in the Transaction Reports and one that is not included. This has prevented the double accounting on the reports. Seems a bit heath-robinson but it will work for me now.
    Cheers again for your advice
