Moneydance freezes when I hit "enter" on transactions
As per the subject line. It will unfreeze after 2-3 minutes, but can't see what the issue is. no error / message shows. It just sticks. Task Manager

Using MD sync? What type?
After this happens, grab help/show console. Upload that output here as a txt file.

Hi David,
Do you have 'Beep when Transactions Change' ticked in Preferences?
If so, try unticking it.

Hi David,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.
Would you be able to send us a copy of your Moneydance error logs?
The logs should include information on what might be causing the issue.
You could navigate to Help->Console Window and click the arrow (at the bottom left). Select Copy to Clipboard and attach or paste the full content in your next reply.
Alternatively, you should navigate to:
Local Disk(C:)>Users>Your Name>.moneydance>errlog.txt
Finally you can copy the full content into your next reply here.
Thank you

You have a corrupt sync taking place. (Each time).
Can you run toolbox. Click analyse dataset and objects, and upload that output here as a text file.
After that. Run toolbox shrink dataset. 1 days. Also capture and upload the output txt file from that too.
BACKUP FIRST.

@Stuart.
Please see attached "Analyse Dataset" report.
Also completed Data shrink - report attached.
Next steps?
Thanks!

Ok. It’s halved the size of data set. But I note:
This file is your issue. You need to run shrink again and agree to delete this file.
Keep me posted. And upload the output from new shrink again.

Hi,
I've rerun the datashrink, deleteing the uploafbuf file - output report is attached.
Have restarted MD, but still have the freeze when I create a transaction :-(

Nothing attached. Please re upload the latest shrink txt file (using the website, not email reply), also grab a new toolbox analyse dataset and objects, upload that. Also reproduce issue and then grab help/show console and upload that. all as txt file attachments.
Also, please explain what you are using sync for? Mobile app, another computer, both? Would it upset you if we blew that away and rebuilt the sync setup?

that's OK - looks fine. Check again. what about the other 2 txt files I asked for and the sync question?

Hi,
Please see attached data analyse and console reports.
Syncing between multiple family desktops and my mobile app. Would like t be clear of impacts / messages to others in the family before walking the rebuild sync route.....

That’s odd.
Still exists and you have 500 odd files waiting to sync.
Is this the master dataset? Are you sure sync is turned on?
Did shrink ask you about purging the out folder?
I think these 500 sync files are recreating the bad huge uploadbuf file.
I suspect the only solution is:
backup
turn off sync
use toolbox advanced mode to force reset sync
use toolbox shrink. 1 days. Say yes to all questions.
pause and send a new analyse dataset and objects output.
confirm pause has gone
set up sync new
on all devices use file/new/open sync dataset and attach to the new sync setup.

Thanks, Stuart.
Let me rerun the datashrink, then run through the steps you list. I'll get
back later in the w/e.

I would concur with Stuart, the syncing does not look healthy.

Hi David,
Stuart referred the problem to me and I wonder if you'd be open to doing a screen sharing session with me so that I can get to the root cause of the problem and come with a fix? If that would be ok, could you choose the most convenient date/time from this link: https://calendly.com/tikhelp/30min
Thanks!
Sean

Hi
@Stuart
I have stopped sync, reshrunk MD, and re-analysed. Files are attached. MD seems to be behaving without lag.
I will pick the remainder up with Sean.
@Sean
I have set up a zoom call tomorrow - let's review file location / resettign sync, and hopefully put this one to bed.
Thanks both
Dave

Wow. 1.8GB down to 80MB!!
I suspect it will be tricky for Sean to analyse what’s happening now, after your reset. But at least you are running again.
Toolbox 🧰 +1 😃
