POP OS COSMIC DE compatibility
Hi,
I am longtime user of Moneydance and very pleased with it. I was using MD under POP OS Linux and very happy with performance. I recently upgrade to the COSMIC DE under POP OS and am having issue with MD. The issues that I am having involve the pop up windows for pick lists. They are unstable and challenging to use at best/ For example when I try to pick a category, the window appears but flickers at a high rate, is not legible and cannot be picked from. Another example when I try to select a date, a box brief appears and then quickly disappears and can not be found.
Is anyone else having issues with MD on POP OS COSMIC DE?
Thanks in advance,
Rod Biddle

Hi Bob,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
While Moneydance 2024 itself is a stable release, running it on this beta OS may lead to unexpected behavior or compatibility issues, especially with UI rendering or file access, as you have reported.
That being said, you could try the following workaround suggested by another user:
Launch Moneydance.
Open a second main window with control-shift-N (or File-> Open New Window). A free-floating main window will now appear.
Click back to the "full screen" frozen full-screen view to make it active. Hit ctrl-W to dismiss/close it, leaving behind the minimized and movable window.
Resize to taste and now quit so the settings save this as the default startup configuration.
When re-opening Moneydance, your main window should be an actual movable window. Depending on your window manager/compositor, you can even hit the "maximize" button on the top right to make it full-screen (but still have the ability to minimize it again).
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Maddy,
Thank you for your response. I tried your suggestion and based upon
minimal testing it appears to not have had any change on the issues I am
seeing.
It is not my intent to blame Moneydance for the issues that I have
encountered, solely reporting them for others benefit. For the unstable
pick-lists, I may have found a work-around. Usually the pick-list have a
set of UP/DWN arrows associated with it. Sometimes when I click the down
arrow, the window will stabilize and then I am able to scroll and make a
selection. It is not a certainty that the window will stabilize, but
after multiple clicks, I can get it to stabilize and be usable. Seems to
me like a timing issue.
I agree that using Moneydance on Beta OS is a risky venture that maybe
fraught with problems, but how do we advance if we don't test. Overall I
am pleased the results of my testing as I like both packages.
Sincerely,
Rod Biddle
