I'm working in Version 2024.4 (5253)
Issue is with transaction which are a Xfr from the account. I previous versions the transaction had the withdrawal amount and a second item for the tax withheld on the withdrawal. In the 2024.4 version the tax amount cannot be edited. In past version I was able to update this. I've been using these entries for years and it's only until 2024.4 has there been an issue.
I installed 2024.3 (5219) on a separate computer and the transactions are working as expected.

    Interesting.

My initial reaction is that I do not believe the Xfr action was ever intended to work like that. You are using the Fee and the Fee Category fields and I do not believe they should be active in a Xfr. I think some work was done in the later 2024 builds to tighten up what is allowed.

I think a way to do that type of transaction is to switch to the Bank register in the Investment Account and use a split transaction.

Whether it ‘worked’ before, it was certainly wrong. I’m sure dwg is correct and it was probably prevented.

So using a Bank register to track and investment account does not make sense, surely there is a better solution. This has worked all the way back to at least 2014 time frame seems odd to stop the functionality now.
This is an RRSP Investment account that I make withdrawals from on a monthly bases. When the Investment company sends the monthly payment they withhold tax and send it to CRA. There must be a solution to track these transaction as I'm sure I'm not the only customer that makes RRSP withdrawals and effected by this.
I need to track the complete transaction as the investment account is reduced by the payment plus the tax and only the payment is transferred to my chequing account.
Please either reconsider the changes that where made or offer up a valid solution.

The Bank register view of the Investment Account was introduced to allow the entry of more bank like transactions for those investment accounts that allow for them. All of these transactions would typically show in the Investment register view as Xfr type transactions.

From what you have described it sounds like entering a split transaction in this view would give you the transactions that you need with a single transaction in the Investment and the money split to two different destinations.

The other methodology is two transactions in the Investment register view.

Both of these solutions are valid.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll have a look at the options and see if I can implement what I need.

Sorry, can you let me know how I would change to the bank register view for my investment account. I'm not seeing an option

    Hi hudsonrs55,

The bank register in an investment account is accessed via the tabs along the top of the investment account register.
