I need assistance upgrading MoneyDance from release 735 to 743 on Windows machines.

Java version is 1.6.0_20 in both instances.

Following an apparently successful upgrade on a Windows XP mchine, the user interface will
not appear when I launch MoneyDance. There is disk activity, then nothing. No task bar icon.

The Task Manager shows no application running, but shows the MoneyDance PROCESS is running
but not using any noticeable CPU power.

I'm seeing the same thing on a Windows 7 installation (with a separate license of course)..

I have tried Rebooting Windows in each case but nothing has yielded any results. I have been able to get running as another user but only once.

What should I do next?

    Dblgtwn,

First off, would you please try updating to the latest build, which is 750? If you are not using the most recent version (2010r3 build 750), please update to that version. You can download the update here. This update has resolved a few key issues our users have been experiencing, including a sticky windows java issue which sounds a lot like what has been going on for you.

I noticed you mentioned you have two licenses. We have a simple formula to determine many licenses you need. Take the number of people using Moneydance and the number of computers (no matter the operating system) on which it is being used. Choose the lower of the two numbers and that's how many licenses to purchase. For the purposes of our license, couples count as a single person. More simply, you can either a) use it on as many computers as you like, or b) have as many people as you like use it on one computer.

What this means for you is that if you purchased two licenses and you (and a partner) are the only ones who use the program, you're due a refund! Let me know the name and email address you used to make your purchase(s) and I'll refund one of them. If you have one license you're totally legal!

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Sorry to report that Build 750 acts the same as Build 743. As of now, I
have installed 750 only on my XP Pro machine. It still attempts to
launch and it gets the MoneyDance process started which can be seen in
Task Manager.while failing to report the Application as running. Also I
see no user interface for MD.

Should I try reinstalling Build 735?

As to licenses, I will hold on to them both. If I can get this
resolved, I want to be able to run MD on three machines. In fact, I
made MD the household standard app beginning December after about four
years experience with running it in parallel with QDOS and early
    versions of QWindows

    Hi David

I am extremely sorry I haven't responded to your sooner.

There was a bug in build 750 that was causing a crash when opening some data files. This was fixed in 751. 751 can be downloaded from here:

    http://moneydance.com/other

If this doesn't fix the problem. Please delete your preferences folder such that Moneydance does not try to open your data file on startup. Your Moneydance preferences folder is under

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your-user-name\

    its folder called .moneydance

The start moneydance and create a new date file. Select Help console window to display any error message and then select File->Open and browse to your date file. You should see any error message opening your file in the console window. If there are error please post them to this discussion.
