My problem sounds similar
I started using Moneydance (free version) a few weeks ago. Win Vista.
I entered transcations, set up categories, and set preferences. One of these is "autosave every 5 mins".
I went back to it today to continue where I left off and there is no data present i.e. as if I never used it.
Do you have to manually save the work each time you use it?
Found a backup file but it appears to be empty.
I tried entering a dummy transaction, closing MD then re-openning, and trhe transacation was there. But obviously I don't want to carry on as I don't want to looose hours of work again.
Any help appreciated.
Regards,
CW

CW- I still have not rerally figured out what is happeneing, I basically don't want to spend much time troubleshooting a program I don't trust (already!!)
I bought moneydance thinking it would simplify my $$$, but as of now it is just stessing me out.
When your app starts, does it go to the home screen?, mine does not, it goes to the initial 3 choices to begin a new setup.
The other reason I will probably give up on moneydance is the fact that I can't get my bank to import to the app(the bank rep says it's the apps issue) my bank is listed in the supported banks and I have triple confirmed my login and password with the bank(special login for this application)
The problem is there is not really a better app out there, I also bought Ascendo Money, which works without any issues, but is very basic and does not have a calender for billls.

I am sorry I didn't post on this thread earlier.
The cause of the moneydance program starting up with the welcome screen every time rather than opening your data file is that the permissions on your windows user account folder are set incorrectly. Moneydance needs your user to have write permission to C:\Documents and settings\Your-user-name\ in order to save the program preferences. Under normal circumstances your user account will have write permissions to this folder. Check the folders permissions and make sure that the user you log in as has read and write permission.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer
