I have been using Moneydance since January 2010 for my personal banking accounts. I have spent the last 5 days setting up my entire financial life on the data file I have been useing since January. I decided to start a new data file to separate my daughters' college funds from my banking and investment accounts. I am now unable to find my data file that contains my banking/investment accounts. When I go through the file menu none of the options for opening files contain the data file I'm looking for. It can't just have disappeared. Help!

    Hi jodi,
Not knowing you're operating system, I can't give you the specifics but if you perform an 'All files' Search for *.md you should be able to locate your data file.
The star * is a wildcard. By using a wildcard, the search will locate any file with a .md extention..
If your search results contain files with an .md extention with a date appended, those are your backup files.

Thanks for your help. I was able to find my file. I have a Mac OS X.
I read the instructions from MD Help on how to start a new data file and how to switch between data files. After starting the new file and entering data I attempted to switch to my other file. The file option in the file>open section was my original file but when I chose it the new data file had taken the original file's place. I had to search through all kind of stuff to find the original file. It just shouldn't be that difficult to use this software. Switching between files should be extremely easy.
I have found moneydance very frustrating more than once.
Thanks for listening to me gripe.

My MD, on OS X, does have an open>file "recent" that shows recently used files. Of course, they need to be setup with "identifiable" names to be usable and you have to realize that you can only have one MD data file open at a time; though it might be possible to have different ones open in separate OS X "spaces".

All the finance programs (in fact, of any kind I can remember using) have some operating particulars that can be frustrating. MD seems to me not any worse than any other.

Thanks, I have the recent option but my files don't show up by name-only by date and the new one took on the identity of the orginal file. I will keep working on it to determine my error.
