Security Name column in Portfolio View hogs screen space on window resize, reduces usability

I am using MD 2010r3 (751) on Mac OS X 10.64.

I often want to compare the MD Portfolio View with the information coming from my bank's web site. To do this, I want to be able to put the MD window side-by-side with a browser window and compare the numbers. I find that this is difficult, because the "Security Name" column appears to have a minimum width set that is too large. When reducing the width of the MD window, I find that at a certain point, the Security Name column stops shrinking, and the number values wind up outside the visible part of the window on the right. There is a lot of white space in the Security Name column when it stops resizing, which is a waste of screen real estate. Furthermore, no horizontal scroll bar appears to allow scrolling back and forth so I have to keep the window wide to be able to see all the numbers.

The usability of this view can be significantly improved by making the following changes to the behavior:
1. Eliminate or dramatically reduce the minimum width of the "Security Name" column. Have the column take up all available space in the window after the other columns' widths are subtracted. I think it makes sense to allow a minimum column width of something like 10 characters.
2. Truncate the text in the "Security Name" column to fit into the viewable column width (don't wrap, in other words).
3. Add a horizontal scrollbar when needed for the case when the window is smaller than the sum of the minimum column widths.

Thanks!

    Hi

This is an interesting bug. In my testing I have found that the problem is related to the size of the window when you first go into the investment portfolio view after opening your data file. If you have resized the window before going into the portfolio view the minimum size for the security name column is a reasonable width (a little bit longer than the name). However if you go in to the investment account while the window is large and then you resize it smaller the security name field does not get smaller. It is as it its minimum width is set current width the first time the window is rendered. I have posted a bug ticket. Here is the link.
