Encryption goes away when sharing a MD 2010 data file

Hi,

My Wife and I recently set up a communal .md file, which we access using Dropbox. We have noticed that once the encrypted file is opened on one computer it will "forget" the password encryption when opened on another computer. For instance, if my wife opens the file on her PC, she has to enter the password to access it. After she has saved and closed down I am able to access the file without entering the password on my machine. We have tried reinstating the password protection several times.

Thanks,

Eric

    Hi Eric

I use dropbox to store my .md file and I have not been able to reproduce the problem you are experiencing. I tried with both types of encryption with the same results. The file always asked for the password. What version of Moneydance are you running? You can determine the version by selecting Help->Console Window. Are you running the same version of Moneydance on both machines?

    Sincerely
    Ben Spencer

    Hi Ben,

My wife is using MD 2010 (723) on a Windows 7 computer and I am using MD 2010r3 (751) on an OS X 10.6 computer.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Please update your wifes version to 751 by downloading it from our website (the update is free):

    http://moneydance.com/other

And let me know if that resolves the problem.

I use Dropbox to access my MD data file from three partitions on two laptops (Mac, Win7 Boot Camp partition, and Ubuntu) and I've never experienced this problem.

I updated my wife's MD to the most recent version and haven't had any more problems with the encryption going away. Thanks!
