Download description errors
I am having no problems downloading American Express credit card
data to Moneydance, except with one specific seller. For some
unknown reason, grocery charges are often recorded (in the
description column) as being charges from my Prescription Provider.
In an attempt to fix the problem, I re-downloaded 6-months of
credit card data after deleting the original data. The error in
charge description persisted.
As a result, my Moneydance data is incorrect in at least this one
seller.

Click on the transaction that has been incorrectly merged and then change the description manually to "grocery charges" and set the category. Then from the accept dialogue make sure the ORIGINAL option is selected and click the accept button. Further downloads with the same or similar descriptions should then get matched to "grocery charges".

Perhaps I did not state my problem clearly enough.
When I download American Express data to Moneydance, it incorrectly shows the merchant name in the Description/Memo column as Caremark (my prescription provider) rather than PigglyWiggly (my grocery store). I have not been using any Category/Tags.
For some reason or other it has problems recognizing the PigglyWiggly merchant.

HI Don
It is not possible to enter a transactions in Moneydance without a category. All transactions in Moneydance have a category even if that category is not modified by the user the transaction will be given the default category for the account.
I imagine that you have the option "Auto Merge downloaded transactions" turned on under File->Preferences->Network. This option also carries out the auto assigning of categories and payees to transactions based on the description provided by the bank and the transaction that are already in your register. If you correct the payee manually, as I described in my previous response, Moneydance should "learn" from you manual entry.

I must have a different version of Moneydance because there is no "Auto Merge download transactions" under File->Preferences->Network.
As, further explanation of my problem, I am downloading OFX files from the American Express web site into Moneydance. (I am not using Moneydance's Online->Download transactions to secure the data.
Everything is working well except that the PigglyWiggly expenses show-up as being Caremark expenses. I can edit the charges individually to correct the description, but it would be better if Moneydance carried over the proper Description from the AMEX web site.

Don,
Would you let me know what version of Moneydance you are using? Are you saying that the Piggly Wiggly transactions have the descriptions or the categories changed to Caremark? Thank you for helping us to diagnose this issue. Please let me know how I can be of further assistance,

Monerdance 2010 (723)
Java version 1.6.0_20
The PigglyWiggly description is changed to a Caremark description. However the second line of the description is correct for a PigglyWiggly entry. Also, the expense itself is correct. Only, the name is wrong.

Don,
As you are not using the most recent version (2010r3 build 751), please update to that version. You can download the update here. This update has resolved a few key issues our users have been experiencing, including major improvements to the matching processes. Please let me know if your issue persists and we will look into other solutions.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
