Trial Saving Error
Ok, I just downloaded the trial version today. Entered in about 10 transactions, just to try it out. Went to save and exit, wanted the file to go into the folder I created on the desktop, and I got an error. Erroniously, I figured that it would just automatically save, (like MS Money did) and well... I did say erronously.
So my hand full of transactions were deleted. Sigh.... I got BACK into the program (creating a new file-- advised I had 100 manual transactions to try before buying, still) made a minor change as a test, and tried again.
Here is the error: Error saving file: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\ProgramFiles\Moneydance\test_1.md (the system cannot find the path specified)
I thought maybe there was a character it didn't like or whatnot, so I canceled the "save"... tried to save again, and got the same message, before it even prompted me to assign a save destination.
Is this a trial thing and I am misunderstanding something? I was all set to just go ahead and purchase, because this does what I want, but am now holding off to see how this is resolved, or to learn what I am doing wrong.
Thanks!!
Emily

Hi Emily
Moneydance will save automatically every time you close the program once you have created and successfully saved the data file for the first time providing you set the option under File->Preferences called "Save on every quit."
Without knowing what the first error message you got was when you tried to save I am not certain of the cause of the problem. One possibility (though unlikely) is that you were out of disk space. Another possibility is that you tried to save to a location that the windows user you are logged in as does not have write permission for. Windows XP will not let you save under C:\Program Files\ unless you are the administrator user.
I recomend that you delete the Moneydance preferences folder called C:\Documents and Settings.moneydance and run the program again. This will reset the program to its default state. Create a new file and save it to a location you are certain that you have write permission to such as "My Documents".
I am sorry for the trouble this has caused you. If this does not solve the problem let me know and I will investigate further.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer
