inconsistent default txn behavior in different accounts when reconciling?
I'm confused - when reconciling downloaded txns in my AMEX account, if the txn matches existing info, it will list the possibilities at the bottom with the best one selected (often accurately) in light gray, and I simply hit <alt-enter> to accept. However when I do this in my chase MC account, despite finding multiple matches, the top unedited version is always selected, requiring an extra step from me to select the correct one. Why the different behavior? I'd like it to have the best match selected as the default, not the unedited txn. Both these accounts have similar payees, categories, frequency of use, etc. Why so?
Thanks
stephane

Hi Stephanie
I agree this does sound like incorrect behaviour. Could you take a screenshot of the register with an unconfirmed transaction selected, showing the accept dialogue with the ORIGINAL option highlighted by default with other MERGE or CATEGORIZE options shown in the accept dialogue.
Press the print screen key on your keyboard to take a screenshot.
Sincerely

So I'm on mac osx 10.5.8 with moneydance 2010r3 751.
Here are 2 screenshots.
The first is an example where there are multiple similar matches, all
I did was click on the downloaded transaction, and the unfiled is
selected. ('Unfiled Expense' is the default category for this account)
The second is a similar example except there is only previous match.
Also, I may have been unclear in my initial post, I'm talking about
categorizing downloaded transactions based on previous similar payees.
I'm not referring to matching downloaded transactions with identical
versions that I entered manually.
Thanks
stephane

Stephanie,
Thanks for clarifying what you meant in the prior post.
It seems, however, that the screenshots you included did not get attached. Could you try again to include them?
Thanks,

(resending because the first time the images didn't go through?
they're definitely in here, don't know why they didn't show up)

Stephane,
Still no luck on the images. Are you talking to us over email? Sometimes it helps to click on the link in this thread and go to the forum discussion. From there use the attach file box below the space where you type in your post.
Please let me know if this suggestion is helpful,

Here's the example with a similar match for the downloaded txn, but it selects the unclassified one by default

I have been unable to reproduce the problem you are describing. Do you think you could privately email us you data file (or a cut down version of your data file) that includes unconfirmed transactions in this account that show this behaviour.

Yes, but your email doesn't appear to let attachments through. How do
I do this without posting it on the site?

Stephane,
The best way to get it this attachment to us would be to email it to [email blocked]. This email address should accept attachments, and will be a more secure interface. If that email address rejects the attachments you can send it to me at [email blocked] and I will pass the information along to our developer. Thank you for your help in diagnosing this issue,
