Upgrade problems and problems sync to ipad
I have a mac os x version 10.6.4 desktop and an ipad. I have had the desktop version of Moneydance and it has worked well. about 45 days ago i downloaded the ipad app and sync to desktop - initially worked well. recently tried to sync and nothing happened - data wouldnt transfer. It was suggested that i upgrade my desktop software. I did and down loaded Moneydance5.
Now i have 2 versions on my desktop the sync has apparently worked but all my data - input to version 5 has disappeared. the 2 desktop versions have the same info as on my ipad. it appeas that the info is from the original moneydance version.
How do i get only 1 version on my desktop and is ther anyway to recapture the lost data?

Hi Ray
I am not certain what you mean by Moneydance 5. The current latest version of Moneydance is MD2010r3. You can download it from here. http://moneydance.com/other
It may be that you have a very old version of Moneydance installed. To delete an application on OS X drag it to the trash. I encourage you to drag all versions of Moneydance to the trash and download MD2010r3. Once you have downloaded MD2010r3 you should drag it to your Applications folder.
The disappearing data may well be related to having multiple coppies of Moneydance installed on your computer. Do you know where the data file is located? If not you can use your computers search function to look for all files ending with the .md extension.

I think I have sorted out the sync problems. For what it is worth it would be easier if there was a sync button or something that the user could do to trigger the sync. The way it works now when you have the Programs open together magically the data transfers - or it doesn't. The only way I found out that may data synced was the message at the bottom of thE iPad telling me last sync time.
I still have several versions on Moneydance on my computer. The version 5 I have discovered in the 5th download. The program kept referring me to your website to upgrade.
Through trial and error I have discovered that the data stored in "my documents" is the data file that syncs to my iPad. Rather than have the program on my doc I go to my documents and open the file. That seems to work. But I still want to get rid of the other money dance Programs that show up on my screen. I have tried to drag them to the trash but that doesn't work. I would appreciate suggestions on how to remove them without corrupting the data file that works.
Thanks.

Hi Ray
What happens when you try and drag the extra versions of the Moneydance program to the trash? Do you get an error message if so what is it?
Draging the Moneydance program to the trash or deleting it will not affect your data file in your documents folder even if you delete all versions of Moneydance. The Moneydance.app should be placed in your applications folder rather than on your desktop.
