I've added your vote for this ticket. It's not in active
development at the moment, but we'll let you know once their are
updates.

Regarding discussions closed by "the System": We've been testing
out a new feature of these forums that auto-closes old discussions.
Unfortunately, it also closes discussions with open tickets, which
is not ideal. We're working with the service provider to see if
they can add a setting to leave discussions with open tickets
open.

the order that Accounts appear in and there are lots of
discussions, with votes, that have been closed.

In fact it does look like the old advice of adding a space or a
number does not work any more as the system reorders the accounts
based on something I'm not sure about - maybe last used? Most User
Experience experts will tell you that you should not reorder where
items appear, as it will confuse the user.

Please could you set up a proper vote for this feature,
including all the votes from the 'closed' entries on this
subject.

It appears the auto-close "feature" for old discussions was
activated for this discussion. Please ensure that unresolved
tickets with significant numbers of users awaiting a fix are not
auto closed. Archiving unresolved issues doesn't make them go away
and results in poor user experiences. Thanks!

tskramer64tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/368871682016-07-07T15:13:01Z2016-07-07T15:13:01ZAbility to customize account ordering in the Summary Page sidebar

Sorry about that. We're still trying to tweak this system so
that it doesn't close discussions like this. I've tagged this
particular discussion so that we can keep track of it better.
Hopefully the next time you hear from us we'll be telling you that
we've fixed this issue.

It has now been over SEVEN years since this feature was requested with multiple votes supporting it, and this basic functionality still doesn't appear to be supported in the latest MD 2022.4 (build 4087) release.

Rather than auto-archiving/closing feature requests without resolution, can you please advise when this relatively simple request can be accommodated in an MD update?

Thank you,

Auto close after about three month of inactivity in the topic is a feature of the Tender software, this behaviour cannot be changed.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/368871682023-05-27T14:49:53Z2023-05-27T14:49:53ZAbility to customize account ordering in the Summary Page sidebar

Re-opening discussion, as we are now at MD 2023, eight years and counting, and this basic functionality has not been provided since it was first requested. There are numerous posts requesting this functionality, and all that is offered is a manual workaround to append an alphanumeric prefix on account names to force auto-sorting. How many votes have been submitted for this basic functionality since it was first raised? Please bump this up on the priority list for the next release.

tskramer64tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/368871682023-06-29T02:29:22Z2023-06-29T02:42:43ZAbility to customize account ordering in the Summary Page sidebar

I too would like to see this functionality as it is something I immediately looked for upon my first launch of MD using imported data containing many accounts.

If / when this functionality is finally added, I'd also like to see the ability to insert separator bars. This is especially important for me since MD doesn't differentiate between spending and saving accounts like the other program I used did, instead MD just lumps them both into "Banking" - Being able to insert separator bars would allow for this and even more flexibility / freedom in visual grouping.

bectag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/368871682023-06-29T03:09:33Z2023-06-29T03:09:33ZAbility to customize account ordering in the Summary Page sidebar

I'm a fellow user.

Personally I regard these sort of things at GUI niceties.

I'm more interested in missing core capabilities in Moneydance, especially in Investment accounts, problems in reports etc. I'd like to see these addressed before too much effort is put into look and feel items.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/368871682023-06-29T03:26:00Z2023-06-29T03:26:00ZAbility to customize account ordering in the Summary Page sidebar

@bec - looking beyond the summary bar, which is pretty much fixed and alphabetical, may I suggest the extension "Custom Balances"? It allows tons of ways to order and look at your accounts (and securities, and categories), and you literally could set up your own "summary bar".... and, it has lots of options, like separator bars.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/368871682023-06-30T13:55:27Z2023-06-30T17:41:21ZAbility to customize account ordering in the Summary Page sidebar

dtd, thank you for the thoughtful, relevant response. I have since started playing with said extension. In my cursory configuration, I’ve found a few things:

It seems when I click on an account entry in the Custom Balances widget as displayed on the Summary Page it always brings up the extension configuration window, instead of navigating to the linked account like an entry in the Side Bar would (and the native Bank Accounts widget also does). Is there any way to change this behavior? I did find the desired option to “Disable Widget Title” and of course one can still get to the extension configuration via the menu path: Extensions > Custom Balances. Interestingly, I can tell that each displayed row in the widget already functions as a discrete link in the sense that when it opens the extension configuration window it jumps to the associated row selection. If the displayed widget row links would navigate to the associated account page it would be much more useful to me.

Unless I am missing something, I still wouldn’t want to be so bold as to say it’s a good replacement for the Side Bar, since once you navigate away from the Summary Page the widget is of course gone, whereas the Side Bar can persist for continued viewing of balances and navigation to other accounts. If I could get the Custom Balances widget to persist in a side pane that would be great!

With the Custom Balances extension installed I found MD takes about double the time to open on launch. Uninstalling the extension restores the original MD launch performance. I tested a fresh install of MD on another system and had the same results. The extension seems to present quite a hit to launch time (all testing currently in Windows x64 environment). As this is the only extension I have worked with I don’t know if this is typical for MD extensions.

Sorry no. It is unusual for a custom balance row to contain only one account. Normally it’s a summarisation of many rows. Hence a link to an account would not really work.

Not possible. Sorry.

Hmm. That’s odd. I’ve spent a lot of time fine tuning the extension to avoid launch delays. Questions:

can you run toolbox extension and click analyse dataset and objects. Upload contents here.

can you grab help/console and upload that here.

can you clarify ‘double the time’? Ie 1 to 2 seconds or 30 to 60 seconds?
