I have my moneydance folder on a directory that is shared by Samba. My wife accesses it from her windows pc and I access it from my linux pc (not at the same time). I do most of the work on linux, but after adding a transaction in windows, I now cannot open the file from linux. It opens fine in windows. I copied the entire directory to a non-shared location in linux and still cannot open it. I also recently upgraded from linux mint 17.1 to mint 17.2. I don't remember if this was before or after the last time I was able to open in linux.

I am attaching my errorlog. Any thoughts?

I'm just a user, like you are. But I'd like to offer the suggestion that you backup your MD folder, then delete the transaction you made in Windows and see if you can open it in Mint. You can always restore from backup after you try this.

I use openSuse and a Mac with same files and don't have any problems opening stuff, but I don't use Windows with MD. I keep my dataset in dropbox and don't use Samba for sharing MD.

    Hello,

Can you please be a bit more specific about what happens when you try to open the data file on the Linux system? Do you get an error message, or can you not even get to the point of selecting the file to open?

It looks like from your logs you're using a slightly out of date version of Moneydance 2015. Can you try updating the to latest version at http://infinitekind.com/downloads on both computers and see if this problem persists?

    Ethan,

Moneydance hangs on startup. I get no output of any kind, and no error message other than what's in the error log. I renamed my .moneydance directory, and then the application started and I opened the file from the first screen, and then that screen went away and there was no further output.

Jon - I had the same thought and was going to try that but haven't done it yet. I'll do that and then upgrade moneydance, see what happens, and post the results here.

    Hi Tom,

Would it be possible to get a copy of the errlog.txt from your wife's windows PC? I'd like to determine whether both machines are writing to your dataset from the same build version. If your wife's machine is using a later build of Moneydance 2015, it is possible that it will cause trouble when read by an earlier build.

If you find that the two machines you're using to access the dataset are on different build versions, I'd recommend updating them both using the link that Ethan had previously sent.

    David,

I installed the latest version of Moneydance on both PCs and I can now open the data file. Thanks for the assistance.
