Online Banking with BECU stopped working
I've been downloading checking data from BECU for a couple of years with no problem (Visa doesn't work but I'm told that will be fixed in the next release). Suddenly I get the following error:
There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.
Error Description: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Untrusted Server Certificate Chain
Is this a MD problem or my bank ?

It is a Money dance problem since Quicken works fine. I have the same error as you SO I tried my Quicken 2007 version and it connected and downloaded fine. I have had the problem with moneydance since the 10th.
I hope they fix it soon

Hi all,
We do know about the problem and are working on the issue. It would be incredibly helpful to get console information to diagnose this issue. If you would be willing, could you send me the contents of your error console? Here's how to get the log in Moneydance 2010:
1) In Moneydance, click on the Help menu and select the Console Window option. This will open the console messages window.
2) While the Console Window is open, attempt to connect to your bank. Any error messages should be recorded to the Console.
3) Select all of the text in the Console and use the "Copy to Clipboard" button at the bottom to copy the text.
4) Paste the text from the message window into a text file (preferably saved with a .txt extension) and email the file to [email blocked] with the subject line "BECU error"
The debugging logs that this produces will contain your account information. Jessica will hold your information securely, so the info won't be broadcast to the world, but just to be safe you should redact any account info in the debug logs. Just replace it with something like "ACCOUNT NUMBER HERE" and it should be fine.
Thank you for your help with this,
Angie Rauscher

I am emailing this to you now. I did not actually see my account number in the logs. I'll keep watching this thread so let me know if you need anything else.

Is "***@moneydance.com" really the correct email address for this?
6 Posted by Andrea Smith on 15 Nov, 2010 12:02 AM
I am having the same error and have sent the information to Moneydance as requested.

Alright. The ***@moneydance.com address doesn't work. Here is the content I was trying to send. Please note, there are no account numbers in this thread.

Hi all,
We have a fix, but unfortunately we're having a little trouble with our update system and therefore have been unable to release out a new build yet. I hope to have things worked out in a few days. I'll update when it's released.
Sorry for the delay and inconvenience!

Hi Jessica,
When do you think this will be fixed? I haven't been able to update my account for more than two weeks and this is becoming more than just an inconvenience.
Thanks.

Hi all,
First, I'm very sorry for our delay in fixing this! However, we now have a build out that should allow you to connect again. You can download the updated moneydance.jar file that you need at: http://moneydance.com/download/2010/Upgrade/newcert/moneydance.jar
Here are instructions on how to install this file. This should work on all platforms:
1) Go to whatever directory you have Moneydance installed in. There should be a file named "moneydance.jar". Rename that file to something else, like "moneydance.jar.original".
2) Copy the file you downloaded into your install directory.
3) You should now be able to connect to BECU
Again, I'm very sorry on the delay in fixing this. Please let me know if you have any trouble installing this file or connecting after you've updated.

Jessica,
Thanks, it seems to work fine on a Mac.

Hi,
I searched on my computer for the moneydance.jar file and did not find it. Tried the download anyway, but no luck.
Help please!
Mac 10.4.11. Picture attached with MD build info.
PS. This was heartening to discover my precise banking problem! Yaaaaay!
18 Posted by xiaogao on 26 Nov, 2010 06:53 PM
When you say you "searched" do you mean you tried to find it using search? If so, try just looking in the folder where Moneydance lives. You should see a file called "moneydance" that is not the app itself. Its file type should be "executable jar file."
And when you tried the download, where did you put it after you downloaded?
My apologies if you did all this and it seems elementary; I just can't tell from your post exactly what you've tried already.
19 Posted by lahgitana on 26 Nov, 2010 07:36 PM
I'm so sorry to be unclear. Let me try again:
I used the Searchlight function (search, in Mac) and I went to MD,
which lives in my Applications folder. Please note that there is
not a MD folder there--just the app.
I also have a separate folder where I keep all our financial stuff,
and that is where the backups reside. Perhaps I have screwed up
somehow by separating them?
Mac doesn't have "executable" files that the user readily sees. I
see no files with the .jar suffix.
Re: download: I put the file (and the folder) into my Applications
folder--I made a folder for MD so that the app and the .jar would be
in the same folder.
Thanks for such a quick reply!
Laurel

Oh, I'm just another user, not a Moneydance tech support person. Just thought I'd give it a shot since I happened to be online.
I used to use Moneydance on my Mac so I checked, and it's as you say -- app is in the apps folder, no .jars or .exes. I deleted my Moneydance data from that machine so I can't check to see if it was in that folder, though.
Sorry to be so useless!
21 Posted by Andrea on 26 Nov, 2010 08:05 PM
I had the same issue. Here is what you do:
In Finder, go to the applications.
Right click on the Moneydance icon.
Choose "Show package contents"
Click "contents"
Click "resources"
Click "java"
That's where the moneydance.jar file will be. You can rename it and then drag and drop the new file into that folder.
That will solve the problem. Good luck!
