I have been using Moneydance with with Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04. Recently, I tried to install it on to Ubuntu 10.10. However, there is no way of installing "moneydance_linux_x86wj.sh". I found that it is possible to install using "Moneydance_linux_x86wj.tar.gz" but the Moneydance does not appear as an application and the icon is missing. I noticed that someone has exactly the same problem recorded on the Internet. I would be most grateful if there is a solution for this problem. Many thanks.

I was able to install Moneydance on 10.10 with "moneydance_linux_x86wj.sh". The installer does not create a desktop launcher or menu item in the gnome menu but you can add these manually if you want.

To add a menu item in gnome right click on the applications menu and select "Edit Menus". You can then click on the "New item" button and browse to where ever you told the installer to install Moneydance. when you browse you should select the file called Moneydance that is inside the Moneydance folder.

Add to the applications menu as Ben describes. Highlight MD in the Edit Menus window and select Properties on the right. In the Launcher Properties window, click on the generic icon, navigate to the MD folder. There should be a "moneydance_icon32.png" that will give you the icon for the launcher.

I'm a new user of Ubuntu 10.10. I'm trying to get away from Microsoft Money and it looks like this will work, but can't get Moneydance installed.

Any help would be appreciated. As detailed as possible. Small words, spoken slowly.
