manual override for currency
Looking for help again - we are trying to get our account
balances in order after importing from Quicken and there seems to
be a problem in the accounts where we frequently move money from
Cdn $$ to US $$ and vice versa. It Quicken I would manually enter
the exchange rate we received and have had no problems. ,Moneydance
has put them in at different exchange rates and now our balances
our off. I need to be able to override the currency rate - how can
I do this.
Thanks ,
Janice

Hi Janice
When you enter a transaction in an account that is not in the base currency to going to an account that is not in the base currency, you can manually enter the exchange rate. This is in the box directly under the payment box. See the attached screen shot.

Thanks for your help Ben but I guess I should have been more explicit - I am trying to show funds in different currencies moving between investment accounts - is there a manual override for currency exchange these accounts. I tried putting the exchange rate in different fields but nothing seemed to work. And the base currency for the accounts is in the respective currencies. We have the Cdn account set up as a Cdn account base currency and the US account is based in US dollars. For example, we move $10,000 Cdn from our Cdn based account into our US based account and the result is 10, 100 US; but Moneydance is using some other exchange rate and throwing off our balances.
Thanks
Janice

Hi Janice
I a sorry I assumed you were refering to bank accounts.
It is not possible to manually override the exchange rate for an investment account transaction from from with in the transaction. However I believe that if you set the current exchange rate in the currency history before entering the transaction Moneydance will use that rater for the transaction.
Click Tools->"Currencies/Exchange Rates...'
Select the currency of interest.
Click "Edit..."
Enter a the rate you want to use in the Rate field.
Click New
Click Done
And then enter the transaction in the investment account.
I am sorry for this inconvenience of this.
Sincerely

Hi Ben, thanks again. I knew there had to be a way to do that! Thanks, this did work - I had to delete the original transaction, manually enter the exchange rate as you described and then re-enter the transaction. It also took me a little while to realize that the currency I had to change was the US dollar rate. I guess because our accounts are based in Cdn - we change around this. (this is a little different thinking than most - we're always used to seeing the exchange rate the other way!)
Thanks, this is hopefully the last link in the puzzle to switch over from Quicken!

I am suffering from the same issue and saw similar bug reports already from 2007. When can we expect this to be fixed also in investment accounts?
Best regards,
Hannu

I spent some time looking at your ticket database and found the tickets #1613, #791 and #292 to be most relevant with my multi-currency problems. Also #1240, #683, #631, #536, #489 and #249 seemed to be somehow connected.
Have a good one,
Hannu
