Cannot Edit Reports
I don't know if my ability to edit reports by directly clicking on the report in the left hand panel stopped working before or after I installed Kaspersky Internet Security. I was using Moneydance 12.5 on Windows 8.2.
When I clicked on a memorized report in the left hand panel, it would run using the memorized settings, but I could not edit the report. These memorized reports were all based on the Transaction Filter report. I could press Alt-Tab and see the Java pop-up windows for editing report filters, but I could never open those windows on my monitor. I tried a single monitor and extended two monitors.
At the time, my work around was going to Tools>Graphs & Reports and selecting the Transaction Filter report. This allowed me to to open the dialog window to change the settings and memorize new reports. I created many reports for tax purposes 2 days ago by following this procedure. I can still run those newly memorized reports by going to the left hand panel and clicking on them.
In an attempt to regain the original functionality that allowed me to edit the reports by clicking on them in the left hand panel, I upgraded to Moneydance 2015 (paid the upgrade license fee), but now I a) still cannot edit reports by clicking on them in the left hand panel, and b) now my work around of going to Tools>Graphs & Reports is no longer working. If i press Alt-tab, i do not see the Java popup windows any more.
Consequently, I decided to upgrade to Windows 10, which also upgraded Java files. This didn't help.
Since then, I've uninstalled Kaspersky, and Java (thinking there might be conflict with the Java that comes with Moneydance). Still I cannot edit reports.
Please help since Moneydance has no value if I cannot run reports on my transactions.

Hi Donald,
Can you try upgrading to the latest preview release of Moneydance from here:
http://infinitekind.com/preview
and see if that fixes the issue that you're seeing?

Hi Scott, Thanks for the quick reply.
If i go to Tools>Graphs & Reports, I cannot run the Transaction Filter report. It doesn't even appear when I press Alt-Tab. However, when I go to the left hand panel and click on the Transaction Filter report and click the Edit button, and press Alt-Tab, i can see a Java window, but it is blank and I cannot open it in my monitor.

That is quite strange. Have you tried upgrading to the latest preview version as Scott suggested? Can you please send in a screenshot of your display that includes this Java window that you describe? If you're not sure how to take a screenshot, please see http://take-a-screenshot.org/

Sorry, my last reply wasn't clear. I did upgrade to the preview version as Scott recommended, and my last reply is the behavior I observed after the upgrade.
This is what I am observing now (i was a little more methodical in my tests this time):
1) Left Panel>Clicking on Transaction Filter: opens and runs the report as of my last edits, but pressing the Edit button does nothing...no edit windows is visible...not even visible with Alt-Tab.
2) Tools>Graphs & Reports>selecting Transaction Filter: opens the edit window of the report, but pressing the Generate button does nothing...no results are returned, no popup windows visible...not even visible with Alt-Tab.
3) Left Panel>Clicking on selecting a memorized report I saved 3 days ago based on the Transaction Filter: opens and runs the report as of my last edits, but pressing the Edit button does nothing...no edit windows is visible...not even visible with Alt-Tab.
4) Tools>Graphs & Reports>selecting a memorized report I saved 3 days ago based on the Transaction Filter: opens the edit window of the report, but pressing the Generate button does nothing...no results are returned, no popup windows visible...HOWEVER a Java popup window is visible with Alt-Tab, but it is mostly blank (please see the attached screenshot).
So only scenario #4 has results that are different from the other scenarios, but the results do not meet my needs. I cannot say with certainty (since there are 4 distinct scenarios and I was only expecting two scenarios i.e. 1) Tools>Graphs & Reports, and 2) left panel) that these results are different from prior to the upgrade Scott recommended.
It seems like something is keeping the popup windows from executing properly. Previously in Windows 8.2 (it may have been an earlier version...note this behavior started while I was still on Windows 8.2), Moneydance worked as expected. It seems like either an update was pushed to my laptop or the Kaspersky install (now uninstalled) messed up the popup windows.

Hi Donald,
Can you try resetting your Moneydance preferences and see if that fixes the issue that you're seeing? To do this, you have to rename your config.dict file. If you're using Mac OS X, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:
Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict
or:
Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict
If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder, open Finder and select Go>Go to Folder> and type in:
~/Library
This should pull up your local Library folder.
If you're using Windows, it should be located at:
C:\Users\\(yourusername)\\.moneydance\config.dict
Once you've found your config.dict file, close Moneydance and rename it (to something like config2.dict, for example), then open Moneydance again and it will appear as though you've just installed Moneydance for the first time, so you'll have to re-enter your license key and may have to locate and open your data set again. If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename the original config.dict file back to config.dict and open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.
