Getting Quotes to update daily
I know there is a lot of discussion on this, and a couple of
different extensions to do this, but still have the problem that
program does not follow the update schedule:
using Quotes & Exchange Rates 2.0 build 59 (it will update the
quotes if select "update") using Stock/Forex Quotes Auto
Synchronizer Build 3 and have seting at "update stocks on file open
(will do that), update stocks every dat at 19 0 (drops the trailing
zero, as well as any number), and update stocks interval (in
minutes) at 1440 (1 day).
Alas, it does not work either at the time (7pm) or every day, whether on Windows (Vista) or Linux (Ubuntu). Must be some magic?

The "Quotes and exchange rates" extension does not use the "Stock/Forex Quotes Auto Synchronizer ". "Stock/Forex Quotes Auto Synchronizer " is only used with the "Yahoo stock quotes" extension.
I recommend updating to "Quotes and exchange rates" build 71 and removing "Stock/Forex Quotes Auto Synchronizer ". Then in the settings window for "Quotes and exchange rates" set the "Update frequency" to "daily".
Sincerely

Hi --
That did not seem to work -- No entry to the console message after I
started program:
Starting Moneydance 2010r3 (751)
Settings Folder: C:\Users\sprimost.moneydance
OS: Windows Vista 6.0 x86
Java: 1.6.0_23 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
ConnectionTask for Update_If_Needed done, result true
(1) does it know that it is a "weekend" and not update?
(2) what time does it know is "daily"?
My next test will be to restart it (I had updated to Quotes and
Exchange Rates 2.0/Build: 71) and thought I did restart. I have it both
set to Yahoo Finance - USA, and not currency exchange rates update.
Thanks --

Steve,
Currently securities can only be updated once per day. The developers are working on several issues related to the quotes and exchange extension, more frequent updating is on the list.
The updates don't automatically happen you have to go to the extension and tell it to update. I''m not sure if this is on the list of fixes. I can check in with the developers.

It has been my experience that the extension runs and updates prices the first time I open MD when I have it set to Update Daily. Once it has automatically updated prices for that day it will only run the price update if you "manually" open the extension (Extensions > Quotes and Exchange Rates) and click the Update Now button on the lower left. This should go out and get the most current price each time you perform this action, regardless of how many times you do it. Since it is a weekend (and the markets were closed on Friday 12/24) prices haven't been updated since Thurs. 12/23. If you open the program tomorrow after the market opens and the extension runs you should get new prices for the day. Once that occurs though, you will need to use the manual operation described earlier if you ran it before the close of the market to get the final prices for the day.
I'm running MD 2010r3 (751), Quotes & Exchange Rates 2.0 Build 71 on a Mac OS X and have run the extension successfully to update my securities multiple times throughout the day.

Thank you all --
Yes, it does run as explained (upon start-up, manual invoke by "update", and can be invoke multiple times during the day). The log correlates to the updates.
I guess it is misleading what "next update" means: not that it does an automatic update on the next day (as shown) but that the next valid update is on that date (as indicated by the transactions listed in the log from the console window. (maybe, a hint to the developers...got to admit--it is an awesome product).
Appreciate the clarification.
Steve
