Using Money Dance 2010. Tried to create a new account yesterday. Got the new account page to open. Decided I did not want to open new account, but now I can not get back to my main account. Where do I look to find it? I have tried going to file/open recent/ and clicking on the account name I thought it was called, but the only thing that opens is the "new account" with no info in it.

    Hi Paul,
When you say 'Tried to create a new account' I'm assuming that you meant that you tried to create a new date file. Is that correct? If so...
Do a 'Search' on your machine for files with a .md extention. The wildcard * should find any file name with a .md extention. e. g. *.md

Look at the title bar of the of the 'new' data file. It should show you where it's located, perhaps your original data file is close by.
    See attachment Title bar.jpg

I have done that. When I try to open any Money dance .md file, or any backups, it gives me the new "my finances" account which has no data in it.

Can you make a change to the currently open file. (e.g. add one transaction) then select File->Save. Then close Moneydance and reopen it. if you do this do you see the change that you made?

    Hi Paul,
The fact that you could Save the file with a change (new txn) demostrates that there is not a write permissions issue with the location of the file, which, I think is what Ben was shooting for.
Do you keep any other routine backups of your documents that you can retreive your original data file from? For example your Operating System's built in backup program or online backup.
Can you confirm that your original MD data file was indeed Saved and Named?
Are you logged on to the proper Windows (or Mac?) User Account?
If a Search for *.md did not find your original Moneydance data file, then what might've happened to it was that it was inadvertently deleted or overwritten or if this was your first time creating a MD data file, you may have neglected to Save the file before creating the new data file.

    Hi pq569,
Restoring a Moneydance backup data file simply requires renaming the backup file minus it's appended creation date. For example a Moneydance backup data file named Moneydance.md-2011-01-25 could be renamed Moneydance.md.
Be mindful however that Moneydance, by default, creates it's backup data files in the same folder as the main data file. So as not to overwrite the main data file, when renaming the backup data file, give it a different name than the main data file. For instance Moneydance_1.md
Double click on the newly renamed data file to Open it.

Assuming you backed up your data file using your Operating System's built in backup program or an Online Backup service, you would need to read the Help files for that particular program on how to restore backed up files.
