I just started using Moneydance a week ago and I'm not impressed. I migrated my files from MS Money per the instructions. However:

  1. The graphics are ugly, much uglier than the sample on www.moneydance.com..

  2. Moneydance says every salary withholding contribution to my 401k came from a stock that doesn't exist anymore and was never the source regardless.

  3. I can find no way to edit individual transactions.

I can't speak to all your issues but here's some help with two of them:

To edit a transaction double click on the transaction and this will put it into Edit mode. Now you should be able to go in and make changes to any field.

Show Transaction Details is actually a tool to help diagnose a user problem. It is a way for the user or developers to see all the information that is associated with a transaction in the format that it will be saved to the data file.

Regarding the "look" of MD, I believe the images on the page you referenced represent how MD looks on a Mac. If you're on a PC you may have a slightly different look. You can customize MD by going to File > Preferences and clicking on the individual tabs.

    Hope this helps somewhat.

    Thanks. I'll give you're suggestions a try.

Meanwhile I'm spending my afternoon deleting securities that were mistakenly put into multiple accounts. It seems like correcting anything in Moneydance takes a long time.

    Egil,

Jbnyt's suggestions are excellent. I would also recommend the "Find and Replace" extension to make changes to multiple transactions. You could also use the "Batch Change" function, which permits you to change the account or category of multiple transactions at once.

Right-clicking a group of selected transactions will bring up a context menu, providing only functions that can be applied to multiple transactions. One of these functions is Batch Change. This provides a quick and easy way to make a global change for all of the selected transactions.

Batch Change allows you to make changes to the Description, Check#, Memo, Tags, Category and Account fields in the register. Please note- changing the Category of a transaction changes the information which is currently in the Category field of the transaction. Changing the Account of the transactions will move them out of the current account (or category) register into a different account (or category) register.

If you haven't yet discovered the Moneydance 2010 help documentation, which is located here, it's got a lot of great tips.

Good luck, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

    Angie Rauscher
