Hi, When I clicked on moneydance to upgrade my info, I got a green screen that asked if I wanted to start a new account, open an old one, etc. When I checked open an old one I got an error message that said:

Error: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /Applications/Moneydance.app (No such file or directory).

Where did it go? I'm using mac os x version 10.6.6.-Snow Leopard. I'm a grandmother and not really good with computers, and I'm really worried that I have lost a whole year's worth of information. Thanks.

    Hi Bonnie,

The first thing I would try is to do a "Spotlight Search" for the phrase ".md" (without the quotes). This will search for your Moneydance data file, which has the file extension .md. Try clicking on the file to open it. Let me know what (if anything) happens and we'll move forward from there.

Hi Angie, I was so thrilled to see all my data appear on the screen again!!! Thank you so much for your help. Do you know why it went away?

    Hi Bonnie

There are a couple of reasons why the program did not automatically open your data file when it started.

    1) You may have logged into your operating system with a different user account. The Moneydance setting are user account specific.

    2) You my have inadvertently renamed or moved your data file to a different location. This would have prevented the Moneydance program from being able to find the file.

    3) You may have inadvertently deleted the Moneydance preferences folder that is stored in your users home folder.

Either way unless you actually delete your .md data file you will not lose your data.

    Sincerely

Thank you so much for your information. I truly appreciated all your help! I was trying to copy my stuff onto an external drive besides backing it up. Maybe I did it then. Thanks again, Bonnie
