Cleared vs Reconciled Transactions do not adjust balances as expected

Using the latest version for Mac, updated yesterday, 3/31/11.

First, I've read the page in the knowledge base.
http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/frequently-asked-questions-2/what-i...

I'm either not understanding the differences between the diamond, check mark or an empty field.
OR
My installation is not working correctly
PLUS
I have a suggestion to make it more clear.

Per the above article, I'm expecting that if I click the orange diamond, the cleared balance should change in the popup balance menu, but mine does not.
In order to get cleared balance to change, I need to click the green check mark (which I believe to be only for reconciled transactions.

So I believe something to be functioning incorrectly. I don't know what that could be.

Please clarify.

Next, I'd like to suggest that the names of the diamond and check mark are reversed and need relabeling.
The green check mark should be labeled "Reconciled" (not cleared or even reconciling) as it indicates that that transaction agrees with an official monthly bank statement and requires no further recording or processing activity.
And the orange diamond should be labeled "Cleared" (not reconciling) as it indicates that an item has merely cleared, but not yet processed as reconciled, by the bank through a mini-statement or by comparing it with an online bank register. Selecting the diamond should adjust the uncleared balance.

    Hi

I am afraid that the FAQ article is completely out of date and refers to how things used to be many years ago. I have now deleted the article. Transactions marked with the orange diamond means that you are in the process of reconciling those transactions. They should not count towards the cleared balance. Only transaction marked with the green check mark count towards the cleared balance.

You can get the up to date documentation from the link below. Chapter 4 describes the reconciliation process.

I am sorry for the confusion.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I have just downloaded Moneydance 2011 for Windows to update my Mmoneydance 2010 setup and the Reconcile process window has definitely changed from 2010.

Under 2010, the Cleared and Uncleared figures at the bottom of the screen for both debits and credits automatically changed as entries were clicked adding the orange diamond. At the end of the reconcile process, the difference in balance would be zero but in addition the cleared balances at the bottom of the screen would show the total of all debits and all credits marked with the orange diamond which I could check against the total debits and credits from my banks csv file of my transactions for the reconciliation period.

I should be grateful if the 2010 method of operation of the reconciliation process could be restored as in its present 2011 form it has gone backwards.

    Kind regards

John Lee: that's been reported and it's pretty clear that it's on the short Fix list.
