After many false starts I managed to import data from Quicken 2016 in QIF format but had to change the date format to MM/DD/YYYY to import correctly.
My preferred format is DD/MM/YYYY is there any way I can change the format after importing data

The format preference for importing is only for the import of that particular data so that Moneydance can interpret the date correctly and MDY is very common for QIF files from Quicken.

The preference for what you use In Moneydance is set in the menu item File --> Preferences --> General
