Tags not included...
I am doing an income and expenses filtered by tag. I also want to show transfers (tagged) from another account. I have set the "show transfers from non-source accounts" in the report. Mostly the summary is of a checking account and the transfers are from savings.
However I only get one transfer to show up and there are at least a half dozen.
It seems that the tags are only included if they were tagged in the checking account (included account) and not in the Savings account where the transfer originated. It seems that it includes "mytag:2016" but not "[mytag:2016]" which is the referenced tag on the other side of the transaction. A tag should apply to both sides of a transaction not just to the side where the tag was entered.

Tags in Moneydance only exist on one side of a transfer. The user interface show that a transaction has a tag on the other side by the presence of square brackets. If you want a tag to be on both sides of a transfer you will have to manually select that tag on the other side.

I am going to say that is just weird. It is the xfer that is tagged not one destination or another. Displaying the tag with square brackets [ ] should be denoted that it is the same tag. This just raises a whole bunch of questions.
On a transfer, what is specific to each side of the transfer and what is the common informations?
Description?
Memo?
Tag?
Amount?
Cleared?
Date?
Tax date?
etc.?
The documentation should delineate this since as double entry book keeping all the info for a transaction should be common.
I know it is already bizarre if I mark a transaction as clearing in the registerer it does not clear the transaction in the "security" info tab. So the status of "cleared" is obviously kept in several different places.
This whole discussion of what is specific to a transaction and what is specific to various displays of ends of a transaction should be documented up front in the manual as implementation of double entry book keeping.

Double entry bookkeeping does not require that "info for a transaction should be common". It only requires that for every transaction there be a balancing entry in another account.
The meaning of the square brackets is that this side does not have a tag but does show you what the tags are on the other side.
Description: The description is shared on both sides of the transfer. Editing on the parent side changes the description on the other side.
Memo: The memo is distinct on each side of the transaction. You may have a different memo on the other side. If you do not enter a memo explicitly on the other side the patents memo is displayed in square brackets.
Tags: The tags are distinct on each side of the transaction. If you do not enter tags explicitly on the other side the patents tags is displayed in square brackets.
Amount: The amount on the other side is different but linked. In the simplest case where both sides are in the same currency the other side is just the inverse of the parent side. However if the two sides are in different currencies the amount on the other side will be converted via an exchange rate.
Cleared: Each side of a transfer is independently cleared.
Date: The dates are linked. Changing the date on one side changes the date on the other side.
Tax Date: The tax dates are linked. Changing the date on one side changes the tax date on the other side.
Category. The category is linked but is the inverse. e.g a transfer from checking to savings, in checking the category is savings where as in savings the category is checking.
I have often thought that I would prefer if tags were linked between the two sides of a transfer but the developers prefer to keep them separate to allow different tags to be entered on each side.

Ben,
Thanks that clears up a lot. So splits have memos that are not linked but categories that are linked.
Now I have to find all my tags and re-tag the other side of the transaction..... Not clear how to just find those other sides. Finding the tag and then for each transaction I need to find the other side, but then i have to re-find them again.
