    Hi Florencia,
    1) Look to Chapter 8 of the Moneydance User Guide
    2) To assist the Moneydance Support Staff in helping you, provide the following:
    Version of Moneydance
Operating system and version (32 or 64-Bit)
    Version of Java installed
You should be able to glean this information from the first few lines of text diplayed in the Console Window listed under Moneydance's Help menu. Just copy and paste it into your next post.
    3) Provide the name of the financial institution that you are trying to connect to.
    4) Provide any error messages you are receiving.

Thanks for your speedy reply. I will check the manuel. In the meantime do you know if there is a number I can call to get immediate help by an actual person on the phone?

I use MacBook Air OS X 10.6.7 and want to manage all my finance with all my bank from one system, which include:
    American Express US
    Citibank US
    HSBC Argentina
    HSBC Philippines
    HSBC US

Hence why I think I need to actually talk to a person at Money Dance.

Please advice if there is a number I can call. Thank you.

    Hi Florencia,

As far as I know, besides these forums, the only other means of support offered is through email. support at moneydance dot com

The Moneydance Support Staff actively monitor these forums. There is also a knowledgeable user base to assist you.

American Express as well as Citibank are listed as financial Institutions that Moneydance supports for direct connect downloads. http://moneydance.com/fi
Unfortunately HSBC is not. You may still be able to manually import your data from HSBC through thier web interface. Moneydance can easily import QIF, OFC, OFX, and QFX file formats. CSV files can also be imported but not as easily.

When I used AMEX, they did not charge a monthly fee for direct connect. I cannot speak to Citibank.

    Hi Florencia,
Moneydance supports AMEX for direct connect. You may need to activate your account for direct connect at the AMEX website. You can then set up a connection to AMEX from within Moneydance.

To set up your account for direct connect, open Moneydance, access your AMEX Account, then from the Menu bar, click on 'Online', then 'Set Up Online Banking'. In the resulting form, click on 'New Connection', from the table, hightight American Express and click OK. Back at the Online Banking Sign Up form, American Express should now be listed in the drop-down list. Click 'Next'. In the next form wait for your AMEX account to appear then click 'Next'. In the next form enter your credentials. If I remember correctly that's about all you have to do to set up the account.

To download your data, again go to the Menu bar, click on 'Online' then 'Download All Accounts'. Alternately, you can choose to just download your AMEX account from the same menu.

As a convenience you can have MD save your usernames and passwords and encrypt your data file. To do so, from the File menu choose Encryption...

Great tip and on purpose I am copying my father on this mail since he is also trying to use MoneyDance to maintain track of all his expenses. What does Open Financial Exchange (OPX) Institution mean? Isn't that the same as American Express?

ID I imagine is my login name, correct?

    Thanks again for your help.

That screenshot is of an Advanced setup form that you really shouldn't need to access. Make sure you're clicking the 'New Connection' button just above that 'Advanced' button. Then follow the instructions that I posted in post # 6

    Hi Florencia,
I think HSBC is going to be problematic. I took a look at the HSBC website, I could not find any information pertaining to the customer having the ability to download thier data.

You might want to give HSBC customer service a call to see if there is any such ability. If I may make a suggestion, I would refrain from mentioning to them that you are using Moneydance. Many financial institutions have yet to hear of Moneydance and they may just state that they offer no support for it. If you have to, say you use Quicken, Moneydance uses the same protocols to download data as Quicken.

    Good luck,
    -Kevin N.

    Hi Florencia,

Do you know why I am getting the following message:

The reason you are receiving this notice is because auto-save is selected. Personally, I don't use the auto-save option. I like to control my Saves.

You should probably answer 'Yes' to that prompt and if you're asked to save the file, pay careful attention to where you save it. Preferably, save it somewhere in your Documents folder.

If you wish to disable auto-save, go to File > Preferences > Backup tab, deselect Perform auto-save.

Your data file will have a .md extension. For example Moneydance.md. A Searh for *.md (the * asterisk acts as a wildcard) should reveal any Moneydance data files that you have created.

Moneydance by default creates backup files in the same folder as the main data file. Backup data files are given the same name as the main data file but with their creation date appended to them. For example Moneydance.md-2011-05-02

    Your support has been amazing

Thank you for the kind words. Post back if you have any further questions.

    Florence,

First, let's address the Citibank issue. Most financial institutions will require you to enable your accounts for application-based online banking. You can accomplish this by asking your bank to set up your account for connections from Quicken. Moneydance uses exactly the same OFX server connection protocol as Quicken but your bank representative may not know this and mistakenly believe that they do not support Moneydance. Calling up your bank and stating precisely the following should get you started. "Please enable direct connect on my account such that I can connect to your servers directly with Quicken. Also give me the login credentials I need to connect Quicken to this service."

Application-based online banking often requires a different login/PIN than the ones that are used for ATM or web-based banking. When you enable your account for access from Moneydance or Quicken, your financial institution should let you know what customer ID/login and PIN to use.

We don't currently have video tutorials, although we do hope to develop those in the coming months. The PDF version of the user guide does not have page numbers, which we will be fixing in the next release, but in the meantime most PDF viewing programs- Adobe Acrobat, etc will display page numbers in the menu bar. It's not a perfect work-around, and we are working to resolve the issue for the release of Moneydance 2011.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

    Hi Florencia,

I see that Angie has already replied to your post but I will throw in my reply anyway.

When replying to posts, it's always best to return to these forums rather than using your email client to do so. These are pubic forums and some of your personal telephone numbers that you attach to your emails are being posted here. I would suggest that you Edit out that information from your posts. You must first log into these forums to have the ability to Edit your posts.

Having said that, I searched the forums and it appears that Citibank requires a monthly fee and separate credentials to connect to their direct connect servers. Look to post # 4 of the following thread:
    http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/problems/168-cant-download...
If you would rather avoid the monthly fee, you will need to manually download your data from the Citibank website and then import it into Moneydance.

To register Moneydance, from the Menu bar, click on 'Help' then click on 'Register Moneydance' you can enter the License Key that you were issued there.

Firstly: Moneydance is just software, not a service. Just as Quicken is just software. Citibank performs a service.

That said: Try using the same UserName and Password that you use to login to Citi.com. I found that info from searching Quicken on Citibank's website. To download directly into Moneydance or Quicken, it will cost you USD $9.95 per month. An unavoidable charge from Citibank to allow you the courtesy of downloading directly into the software. Citibank calls it a Quicken service fee.

    Hi Florencia,

It is likely that this is a mapping issue. Your accounts are not mapped properly (in other words, one account is pointing to each of your Moneydance accounts).

To fix this, disable the Online Set-up for the problem accounts. Then you will need to re-enable them. Once you have entered your ID and Password click Ok and wait (do not click next). You need to see a window that will display - Please choose the account you wish to use - which are your accounts listed in a drop down list. If you bypass this window - your Moneydance Account will map to the first account on this list. Sometimes you will need to just wait for this window to pop-up as it can take several seconds.

If this does not resolve your issue, please let me know, and include the OS, version of Moneydance, and version of Java you are running.

    Hi Florencia,

Try these steps to get your iPhone to sync:

    1. Open the Moneydance desktop program
    2. Open the Moneydance app on your device
    3. Close the Moneydance app on your device
    4. Open the Moneydance app on your device and wait for about 30 seconds
    5. The sync should occur.

When you create a new account, there is an option to select the default currency. You can simply select "Swiss Franc" on that the setup screen.

You can add accounts to your sidebar using plus ("+") button in the bottom left corner of the Moneydance screen.
