with keeping only 1 file - this was done several months ago. I was
exploring my hard drive and noticed that no MD files are on the
drive anywhere. I double checked my file path and everything is
correct. I used to hear the drive spin when I exited the MD
program, now I hear nothing when I close MD - that's one reason I
went to look inside the external HD.

Can't figure this one out - using build 2008 r 4 641

Michaeltag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/2838372009-08-03T17:53:24Z2009-08-03T17:53:24ZBackup

Hi Michael

What operating system are you using? I know that with Windows
the drive letter can change from time to time for external devices.
This is sometimes not entirely predictable. If the drive letter
changes the path that moneydance uses to store the backup file
would no longer be valid and the backup would fail.

If you change the backup to occur every time you save does it
occur as expected?

If you change the backup location to be on a local disk do the
backups occur as expected?

I am sorry for the trouble this is causing you.

Sincerely

I am afraid there is nothing shown below your comment "See
below..." Would you mind posting again?

If you change the backup to occur every time you save does it
occur
as expected?

It was. I had it set up to keep one copy of a backup on an
external
drive via firewire.. I then realized that I never heard the
hard
drive spin like I used to when I exited the program. I checked
the
folder that it was suppose backup to and there wasn't any file.

If you change the backup location to be on a local disk do
the
backups occur as expected?

I did exactly that after I read this question. I went to
preferences
and set the backup to go to my home account on the local drive.
I
entered a new transaction and then navigated to the local drive
and
the folder I selected for the backup, the backup was in the
folder.
I then tried to change the backup to the external drive and I now
no
longer see the external drive when I'm in the preferences/backup
tab
screen. I tried restarting the program and computer and I still
don't see my external drive as an option to save to.

I am very sorry that this reply is coming to you so late. We
have been very busy and this inquiry slipped through the cracks. It
may be that your files are being backed up, and you're not finding
them as they do not have a .MD extension. They end with
.md-yyyy-mm-dd (if backedup every day)
or possibly .md~ if backed up every time.

Please let me know if this helps to locate then.

Sincerely,
