history graph of purchased investment is blank
I purchased some mutual funds 3 weeks ago. I downloaded the info
from Fidelity, and had t correct some of the info (specifically the
stock ticker symbol) which I did soon after. Since then, my history
graph of each of these mutual funds are blank. The x axis shows
12/46 as what I assume is a date. How do I change that to when I
purchased the fund? THe y axis shows units up to 1.0, whereas the
price is around 17. How do I make the changes to indicate the
history of the stock from purchase onward? I am using 10.6.7 on a
Mac, using Moneydance 2010r3(757). Thanks
Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Go to the 'Portfolio View' of the Investment Account, click on the security in question. This will bring you to the 'Securities Detail' page for the security.
Click on the 'History' button. In the resulting form, click on the 'Import' button. Choose 'Import from Transactions' then click 'Import'. This action should populate the 'History' table as well as the graph with your purchase prices.
Going forward, in order to have Moneydance import current security prices you need to intall the Quotes & Exchange Rates Updater Extension. Extentions > Add > From the Internet. Select the Q&ER Update from the list of extensions. After the extention installs it will become an item under the Extensions menu. Click on it to open it.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the help. THat worked. I wonder why I never had to do that with any of my other mutual funds - they have always had a history graph without doing the importing. One interesting thing is that it took the price I paid when I purchased it (5/2) and kept a straight (horizontal )line until yesterday, then it dropped to todays price (unfortunately lower), without acknowledging a (different) price on 5/11 (when I purchased some more shares) , which would have changed the shape of the graph. (I tried import with that highlighted, but no dice.) It apparently only used the purchase price. You mention getting the Quotes & Exchanges Updater Extension. I already have the Stock/Forex Quotes Auto Synchronizer and the Stock Quote Synthesizer (I don't know why I have both.) Is the one you mentioned better than either of these, or the same. (I should have mentioned that I had them in my original post.)
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Nancy,
The Stock Quote updater is fine, that's what I use too. The Q&ER updater is a newer version with some other features.
As for the graph anomaly, try hitting the 'Clear' button on the 'History' form first and then do the 'Import' from transactions thing again. This has been known to fix some 'stuck' graphs.

HI Kevin,
Thanks for your reply. I did what you suggested and the graph looked the same. However, in putting the cursor over the lines, I have found that the graph went down to the 5/11 price and stopped (and says 5/11). There are no entries after that date. I repeated the process again, but still get the same graph. (The price has changed, and, of course, so has the date.) What could be causing this? (There is a price in the box on the upper right with a price (same on on the home page) that doesn't match either today's price (on yahoo) or last night's price on Fidelity's site, or, for that matter, the 5/11 price.) But, at any rate, it should show a change after the 11th!
What's my next step? Thanks again.

Hi Nancy,
Double check to make sure that the Ticker symbol is correct and entered properly.
To do so, from the Menu bar click on Tools > Edit Securities, select the security in question from the table and click 'Edit'. In the next form, again click 'Edit'. You can check the Ticker symbol in the resulting form.
Make sure it's entered into the 'Ticker Symbol' slot. I've made the mistake myself before of entering it into the 'Security ID' slot.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, I checked this out yesterday and entered it. It was in the security name but not the ticker symbol, as you mentioned. It was the first thing I changed when I started checking out the problem yesterday, so it can't be the cause of the graph history problem..
Any other ideas?

Hi Nancy,
It sounds like the Stock Quote Extension is not grabbing the price quotes for these new Tickers.
Would you be averse to posting the Ticker symbols that are giving you trouble?

Hi Kevin,
I got it! In checking for the umpteenth time that I had entered the ticker symbol correctly, I found that I had entered FFCGX instead of FFGCX (and I'm not even dyslexic!). I corrected it and now all is wel.
thanks so much for all your help
Nancy

Hi Nancy,
It's always the umpteenth time that does it.
Glad to hear you're up and running again.
