Where did 2 1/2 years of data go?
I am a MD 2012 user on Win 7. My hard drive began failing and was forced to install a new hard drive, along with Win 10.
I reinstalled Moneydance 2012. Then I began looking for my files. I stored all data in a subdirectory titled Moneydance in a Directory with all data files. I backed this up using Crashplan to their cloud and to an external hard drive. I found 5 files labeled LASTNAME.md-various dates. The most recent date was early 2013. The data in the file was from January 2013. I lost almost 3 years of data. The last date of data in the file matched the date in the file name.
I used Ubintu Linux and searched the old hard drive for files LASTNAME.md. I looked for moneydance. I looked for checkpt. I found nothing other than the 5 files and the system files. I can't find any other data files on my hard drive, on my backup or in the cloud.
HELP. HELP. HELP.
I was going to upgrade to the latest version of MD. Now I don't know.

Hi ahperes,
Searching for 'LASTNAME.md' will not produce an MD 2012 data set. The .md file extension was used with MD 2011 and earlier.
Try doing a search for LASTNAME.moneydance
Try doing a search for *.moneydance
Try doing a search for root.mdinternal
You may want to try looking in the default location for MD 2012 data sets.
C:\ Users \ yourWindowsLogon \ .moneydance \ Documents
Good luck.

No files showed up. No Documents sub directory in the Moneydance directory. Any other ideas?

If I cannot find my files do I have any options? I have a bunch of QFX files from various accounts and points in time. Can I go back to the 2013 data that I have and add back the QFX files to see what it gives me?
And again, how can MD lose 2.5 years of data like this?

Hi Alan,
Any chance of putting the old Win 7 HD back in and opening Moneydance to see where the data is being stored.

Hi Alan,
QFX files can be imported into Moneydance.

The old drive with Win7 won't spin long enough.
I used Linux to search that disk. The only subdirectories in the Moneydance program files directory are Jars, Jre, and Resources.
I am again searching for any files with Moneydance in the name but so far no luck.

Hi Alan,
I listed the default location for data files in my first reply. Have you checked there?
Not under Program files but in the root directory of the folder of your Windows Logon Name.
C:\ Users \ yourWindowsLogon \ .moneydance \ Documents
Note the ' . ' in front of the .moneydance folder name.
I'm Linux illiterate, and know very little about the Mac OS. In the Mac OS, I think that the ' . ' in front of a folder name would render the folder hidden; so you might need to 'show hidden folders' when searching. (Forgive me if this is not a thing. Just tossing it out there)

Well, I did finally find the most recent data file. It was in a hidden directory right where you said it was. Just took a while to figure out how to find it. In Ubuntu Linux CTRL-H uncovers hidden folders and files.
So thank you for hanging in there with me.

Hi Alan,
You're welcome. I'm glad to hear that you were able to find the data file.
