Updating Stock Prices
I have been updating my Stock Prices using the Quotes and Exchange Rates extension for several months without any problems. Today, when I use it I receive a message at the end which states that the Security Price update completed with 10 errors and 65 stocks updated. What are the 10 errors ( never received any errors before today)? Where can I find a list of the errors so I can determine what to do to fix these errors?

Is Moneydance staff still working on the problem that for Random stock the Current Price is NOT being updated from the previous day’s current price? The value is correct in the History File but the correct value IS NOT being transferred over to the Current Price Field.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry about the continued problems with the extension. We're looking into a longer term fix, as well as other services besides Yahoo to provide quotes and rates. We'll let you know when we have a newer version available for download. I'm very sorry for the trouble this is causing folks.

No errors! Even updated X2. Thanks folks. Hope this the permanent fix, but regardless, I really appreciate your responsiveness in dealing with a Yahoo-based problem!

Just thought that you might be interested to know that today when I did an update everything was 100% correct and I received no external errors. It would appear that perhaps YAHOO has corrected some of their problems, thereby making your extension work properly.

After seemingly working OK for about the last week or so, yesterday, several of my stocks DID NOT update the current price correctly. The History File had the Correct Price but the Current Price Field was not updated from the previous day. What is the status on your efforts to either fix these problems or replace the YAHOO extension with some other approach.

I'm glad Barry noticed this, because it wasn't obvious to me until I checked, and yes there is still a problem updating SOME of my security prices. The History does show the correct price, but the Current Price Field is not updated. As a result, my Portfolio Report is not showing accurate values. Please fix this!

Again today, at least a dozen of my stocks DID NOT update the current price correctly. The History File had the Correct Price but the Current Price Field was not updated from the previous day. I truly believe that you owe the customers that are using your product the courtesy of an update as to the status on your efforts to either fix these problems or replace the YAHOO extension with some other approach. It still seems to me that you can provide a fairly easy fix within your program, even as you continue to use the Yahoo Extension. All you would need to do is ensure that every time an Update is performed that your application simply set the Current Price = to the Last Price in the History File. The history file appears to always be correct and it is ONLY the Current price field that is using incorrect data.

Hi,
Our initial fix for the quote downloader did not account for all the erroneous data that Yahoo! is sending out. Fortunately incorrect prices also have obviously incorrect dates and also fortunately, on follow-up tries the prices are usually correct. We are preparing to get MD 2011 R2 out and will not be able to get to fixing this issue right away but it is also a high-priority for us.
If you get incorrect data go to Extension->Quotes and Exchange Rate and press the 'Update Now' button.
This should correct any aberrant data.
Thank you all for your patience, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Jon
Updating multiple times WILL NOT correct the wrong prices. The system seems to randomly change bad prices to good and good prices to bad. Each time you do an update you will get a different result. What is consistent is that in the HISTORY file the prices are correct. It is only the Current Price field that is a matter of random chance.
If only you would set the Current Price Field = the price in the Latest Date Field of the History File this would be a good temporary fix. If you are unwilling to do this could an option be added to allow the user to perform this action for their entire portfolio?

Hi bjwallack,
As a work-around, I've set the Q&ER updater to only retrieve 'Historical Security Prices'
I then run the updater in the morning of the following day.
This method retrieves accurate quotes, albeit a day later.
Until this issue is resolved or until quotes are retrieved from another source, this has been the best method for me.

Not sure that I understand. I see where what you have described will indeed set the Historical file correctly. But how do you get the Current Price Field set correctly? It is the Current Price Field that is used to show the stock prices in the Portfolio Report. Unless the Current Price Field is set correctly the Portfiolio Report will display wrong information. That is why I suggested that some procedure was needed to transfer the LAST price in the History File to the Current Price Field. Currently, there is no way to see your entire portfolio in a single report and be able to determine Stock Prices. Am I correct, or am misunderstanding the way the Portfolio Report gets its data?

Hi bjwallack,
I just looked at the Current Price field of the 'Currency / Security History' form. Evidently when the Q&ER updater is run in the fashion that I described in post # 46, it enters the price for the prior day into the Current Price field.
This should allow you to run the Portfolio Report without issue. Note that it will be displaying yesterday's closing quotes.
The Portfolio Report can and should display your entire portfolio. If it's not try clicking on the 'Reset' button in the Edit parameters.

My updates seem to work, but do not occur automatically, I have to do them manually. When I open MD after a few days of non-use, the Next Update box still shows the day after the last update, and the prices have not been updated since then.

It seems to half work now. The automatic updating will update the currency
exchange values, but it shows that it skipped all of the stock/mutual fund
prices. When I go in and update manually, then it captures the stock/mutual
fund prices. Just curious about one thing: when I do the manual update, the
currency values appear in the manual update dialog box as well as the bottom
line (grey outline) of the main page. But when it starts updating the
stock/mutual fund prices, the values show up only in the gray outline and
not inside the manual update dialog box.
