i am a new user to money dance - when i download my transactions from wells fargo, several transactions have the wrong information. for instance i just made a purchase at banana republic which shows up as petco! many other transactions are messed up like this? any ideas? otherwise this program is worthless!

Ethune, Moneydance sometimes suggests changes to the payee and category of incoming transactions as a results of its "auto-matching" function. If it's suggestion is incorrect, change the field just above the incoming transaction to "new transaction, no match". Over time this function gets more and more accurate as more transactions are imported.

this makes no sense as the transaction has the payee listed on it from wells fargo. the payee it assigns is not in the moneydance payee list, it's another payee from wells fargo. is there any way to correct this? if not, i would like a refund since the product does not work as advertised.

to add more info, this only happens with a point of sale (POS) transaction with my debit card.

Eric, Sometime it is useful if Moneydance alters the payee from how it is imported (for example when the imported transaction only has a check #). I am familiar with what you are describing, however. Is Moneydance incorrectly matching all your debit card transactions under the same payee (if so, this is happening because of the similarity of description in all your debit card transactions)? If you alter the transaction from "possible match" to "new transaction", over time Moneydance will learn to not match your debit card transactions in this way. In a future release we may create a sensitivity toggle that allows users to change how aggressively Moneydance applies the matching feature. Currently, however, the solution is to continue to select "no match" and Moneydance will being to apply the matching function more accurately.

If you do feel that you would prefer a refund, please let us know.

what i dont understand is that there should be nothing to match up. the wells fargo transaction has the payee information in it. why is moneydance trying match that to anything when that is the payee? can i shut the matching off?

Eric, I have experienced the same thing in my personal account. In my case whenever I use my check card, the payee is listed, but "checkcard" is listed as well. I believe that once I altered a description of a payee to something more specific and MD wanted to then match all checkcard transactions to this payee for awhile. Over time, it learned that this is not correct. Is that what you are experiencing? The matching feature really does get smarter as it goes. We are considering making it possible to change it's sensitivity (or turn in off) in a future release. Currently it cannot be turned off, however.
