single line mode

Having upgraded to Moneydance 2011 (791), I find that every time I open certain accounts they are displayed in 2 line mode. If I set them to single line mode, they will come back as 2 line mode when I restart Moneydance. Is there any way to force them to open only in single line mode, which is what I always operate in.

Hi This reverting to Two line mode has just started happening to me. Running Linux, 2011r2 (803) and Java 1.6.0_20. Ben's suggestion of leaving via the Home page appears to work most of the time but is not 100%. Not sure why it's begun over the last few of days. though I did add 350+ updates to my Centos 6 about the same time ?? Cheers

This is a known issue with an open bug ticket in the following thread.

Is there any more news on this (annoying) problem? Also, I don't know if its related, but I can't get the 2nd line of column headings to go away either (i.e.. the line which shows Memo, Tags, Rate, Foreign Amt etc etc). I have not applied any data in my entries that require these headings, and they are just annoying. Thanks

Seconded on both counts. Any chance of a fix please.

Yes, this is really dragging on, and really annoying. At least one user (me) has given MD a case they can reproduce, five months ago. Ben's link back in November was to this same thread -- not sure what the purpose of that was.

We also need a discussion of how this feature is supposed to work. MD has told us that the setting is by account type. Why? One problem is clearly that AFAIK there are no "account type" records in the user database, so I don't even know where this setting is being stored. Shouldn't it be changed to a "by account" setting? Settings by account seem to work fine, which is reasonable since each account has its own record in the database.

I have also offered to run a tracing version of the program, if that would help to pin down how it happens. No response to this offer. Perhaps it wouldn't help, but I offered.

Then there's the issue that the keyboard shortcuts ctrl/cmd-alt-1 and 2 only work when the focus is in the register, not when it's in the accounts pane. I mentioned that earlier in this thread.

I realize that the MD developers at some point have to get into a submarine to work on the next version. I see that MD's company, The Infinite Kind, recently posted an opening for a developer; this is good. But we've been waiting five months since the last minor release, with not so much as an acknowledgement that this is a very annoying open bug.

This bug has actually been very difficult to track down and fix. We've made a number of changes that seem to fix part of it, but clearly it's still an issue. We are changing the way we load files in an upcoming version of Moneydance. Since the main part of this bug seems to currently be invoked when switching files, that may address the problem.

    Hi All,

I believe we've finally fixed this issue! The next release of Moneydance should properly remember single line mode. I don't have a timeline for the next release yet, but we'll let you know once it's out.

    Hi All,

The 2012 release of Moneydance contains this bug fix. You can download 2012 from our website at: http://infinitekind.com/downloads

One warning though: If you are using Dropbox or another online storage system to share your data file, I would suggest sticking with 2011 for now, as Dropbox sharing is temporarily disabled in MD 2012.

After installing this release, I am asked when I try to run Moneydance whether
I want to create a new file or import a file. Since I want neither -- I want to
open my existing file -- I'm not sure what to do.

I am on Ubuntu Linux (12.04), 64-bit architecture.

Moneydance 2012 uses a new file format. You should import your existing file into Moneydance.

Try renaming your existing Moneydance data file and then try to import that file again. This seems to solve that problem for most users.

Hi. Have downloaded the new version, and after a couple of heart-stopping moments everything seems to be working again. The program DOES seem to remember single-line mode now – thanks! – but I still can't get rid of those secondary column headings (Memo, Tags, Rate, Foreign Amount etc). Any advice on how to hide them? Thanks.

    Hi Roger,
I'm afraid there is currently not an option to turn off the secondary column headings.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.
